    Increased Floodplain Storage Volume

Just as filling of a floodplain reduces flood volume storage and hence potentially results in higher flood levels, conversely doesn't excavation of the floodplain increase the floodplain storage/potentially decrease flood levels?

Conceptual design of submerged pipeline in reservoir

BigInch, at the moment only at feasibility/preliminary design stage. I agree pipeline engineer should be sought at concept and detailed design stage

Marina Extension and algae growth Problem

I believe air diffusers are used in some reservoirs to stop algal blooms, basically they break down the stratification in the water column and this suppresses the outset of algal blooms. Depending on the bottom sediments you may want to be careful in your diffuser design so that silt and...

    Flood Plain Mittigation

In response to "My question was, since all fill has to come from within the 100-year flood plain, what would be the problem with using dirt from the detention pond to raise ground elevations where needed?" - I assume the detention pond will be "wet" and have a permanent water level? Then your...

Conceptual design of submerged pipeline in reservoir

Likely we would need to assemble a barge on-site. Can anyone recommend sources (URL or other) of data for pipeline design, eg pipe sizes/lengths/unit weights, max design flow pressures/velocities, pipe couplings? Perhaps names/links to manufacturers and vendors? StephenA: Thanks for that link...

Conceptual design of submerged pipeline in reservoir

That is the correct flow rate - I realise that it is a lot of water and should have qualified that it will probably require a series of parallel pipes.

Conceptual design of submerged pipeline in reservoir

Thanks for all your input. I agree it is A LOT of water, I should have qualified that it will probably be multiple parallel pipes. I'm not sure about the boat traffic on the reservoir but will take prop and anchor damage into consideration. Perhaps the pipe/s will be buried in shallower...

Conceptual design of submerged pipeline in reservoir

I've also posted this in the offshore pipelines forum. I'm undertaking a concept design/preliminary costing for a submerged pipeline approx 5mi long in a reservoir. Location is California. The pipeline will be conveying freshwater (non-drinking), peak flows of up to 2400cfs and under pressure...

Manning N for overland flow in urban settings

Google "mannings n overland flow". A number of items came up.

Conceptual design of submerged pipeline in reservoir

Though this doesn't really count as "offshore" engineering I thought I would post this here anyway. I'm undertaking a concept design/preliminary costing for a submerged pipeline approx 5mi long in a reservoir. Location is California. The pipeline will be conveying freshwater (non-drinking)...

Manning N for overland flow in urban settings

What sort of resolution/detail are you modelling the overland flows in? Will you be modelling at a sufficiently fine scale where you can differentiate between flowpaths in roads vs through yards (I'm not really familiar with SWMM) Generally when modelling at a broader scale (lumping roads/yards...
