The sheer is determined by the amount of material that is left from the edge of the hole to edge of the material. A lot of this information is a simple look-up, or you can do like I have several times and that is send a email to your steel supplier. I downloaded several analisis software from...
I have recently started prototyping Radio Controlled Model Aircraft. I have been in the hobby since 1964 but after my work has slowed down. I have been an engineer for the past thirty five years designing production machines and machine tools. I have never worked with a laser cutter before...
roadrider,
Go to my web site at the end of my email and there you will find an email address for me. Once I have your email address I will send you some cut sheets that I have used for years to calculate stress. They will be in PDF format. So send me an email. Some day I am going to have to...
I too have engineered several projects on machines using four air cylinders in unison. This was on a gang drilling machine and they needed to all come up and stop at the desired height. What I did was to create an adjustable stop on each of the cylinder rails. This system has worked very well...
Yep!!! I did one with a cam and return springs too and it worked also. Over the years I have seen a lot of methods used but the cam one seemed to have the least amount of maintanance. Just a thought.

I used to told it does, but let me put it to you in the same way an old designer in coal told me "kid forget that crap, for all practical purposes just use the typical formula that I gave you and quit asking me all those questions". Well I waited a couple of days and ask why ( I just...
athomas236,
90 degrees is not an incline. The term incline would be any degree less than 90 degree. Any product moving on any belt conveyor will move. This normally happens because of inconsitancy in the belt path (ie. pulleys, sliders). The reason why we make belt conveyors into a radius...
texaspete,
What kind of CAD software are you using? Email me and I will send you some examples of the standards. I engineered machines and conveyors for the food industry for about thirty years.

dkerckhof,
Normally the speed change is done by the manufacturer. I would wire it as 220vac.

If it is a straight belt conveyor a normal figure is about 17 degrees. Any steeper than that and you need to start adding cleats to the belt to prevend the materail from slipping.

Yes there was, and you are right it was changed a long time ago. There are very few designs today that still use woodruff keys. Most all designs today use a square key just for the economy of it. I engineer and design machines on a daily basis and cost is always a first consideration. If you...
To stop the kick-back you need to mount a large plate to help peal the rebar from the sheer. I agree with sbd2 in the rest of the guard. I am asumming you are using general labor for this operation.
The load drop depends on the size and type of wire used. What is the maximum load you are going to have? The resistance per foot of wire is easily calculate and is posted by many wire manufactures and is available in the engineering hand book under material properties.
