One thing you must take into consideration is that the switch is what starts the PRE-purge of the gas so that when the arc starts, there is already a shielding gas present in the arc zone. If this does not occur, it will affect the quality of your welds.

If you had 1/2 a bag of the finish washers, I would swear that they were finishing screws. I too use them, on computer rack cabinets to hold the panels in place.

You might want to take a look at the National LM34DZ temperature sensors. They are a TO-92 case with a wide input voltage range and have a direct output of 10mv per/deg F. Jameco sells these for about $2 each.
If you are reading the temp in Centigrade, You might want to take a look at the National LM35DZ. It outputs 10mv/0C directly and has a wide input voltage range.
The LM34 is for F scale.

No one has mentioned this but I have used end bearing shims from electric motors with good luck. And they come in all types of sizes and materials. Good luck in your search.

I have been using a rig by ArcOne for several years now and have found them to do very well. In fact I ordered a new dial-a shade a few months ago and am well satisified with it.

Just a little bit of trivia. You can still get Powcon , Cyclomatic, etc,etc at Arc Products in San Diego. They have rebuilt POWCON units and parts for quite a lot of other brands of older equipment. They are at(WWW_ARCPRODUCTS_COM)
Over the years I have found that the ARRL (ham radio operators handbook) is a wealth of information, and can be gotten everywhere. It is a great self teaching guide with actual circuits you can build. Good Luck
