    Silo Clearance

a lot of tank farms have tanks that are that close together that you can only just walk between them. They probabably all need retaining bunds so in that respect they might want them close together in the same bund.

    Planet Gears Self Destruction

if it's worked for a long time then it is probably not the design of the gearbox but some other factor that you & Terry mention. You'll have to look closely at all the failed parts and see if you can spot a reason.

Min torque rating for a gear and pinion

I think you answered your own question. If the pinion is exposed to 100 then that's what it should be rated at. The confusion seems to be the rating of the gearset/gearbox. when you stipulate a torque then, you must say where it is. eg, 300 oz-in output torque, and then if you know the ratio...

    Spiral Stringer

You're correct. helical is the proper term for this one. I thought of the plate idea as being the easiest but there would be a lot of waste, although offset maybe by the waste we might get in trying any other way. The other is the fact you can't reposition a plate so it can only be as wide as...

    Spiral Stringer

I've tried the web and most are in USA or Oz. The bar will be 170 x 10. 5m lg If I can't get anyone we will set a former up and try and roll it ourselves. I think we may do a few before we get it right. It will need going through the rollers at the pitch angle of that particular stringer and be...

    GA drawings vs Engineering drawings

GA's generally show the full assembly with critical dimensions & weights. The parts (detail/engineering) drgs show full dimensions to enable manufacture of individual items. If there's not many dimensions needed, then the part could be made from a GA drg. saves the draughtsman time etc.

    Bending Moment in bar

Thanks dhengr, it was a diagramatic sketch only so I could illustrate what I was thinking regarding just the forces on the end of the bar. Thank's to everyone it has been fully explained. Mick Roll on Saturday
