    Alum Piping

I used it years ago for material handling in PVC manufacturing. It was a dry material (dust like). It was common for them to use the alum tubing. Treat it, design wise as you would ss tubing. I am trying to remember the company name that make the valves, fittings, sweeps, etc. I will have...

    Keeping Women in Engineering

really interesting to read all the comments! I have been in the 'business' (piping design engineering) since 1973 and have seen LOTS of changes. I am exceedingly thankful for all those women that have gone before me and made the path a little easier to tread. I was a single mother and had my...

    Pipe line designations

I think that line numbering systems are usually described as 'conventions' as in line numbering conventions, color conventions or layering conventions. This only means that the company or client sets the conventioning (or system) of line numbering, layering & colors (on CAD dwg's). Each client...

weld neck flanges in between 2 butterfly valves

Unlike in former days of many years ago, Butterfly valves are now bubble tight and are used by most industries. As long as the flanges do not interfer with the flapper, there is no prob using flg to flg and it is frequently done. tks! legs

Necessity of "pup" pieces for a fitting to fitting weld.

I think I see two or maybe three different conditions being addressed here. Zapster is talking about a 'branch connection' which does require certain distance between welds. The original question was regarding welding fitting-to-fitting. This is not the same thing. There is nothing wrong with...

    butterfly valve

for vendor info I have found Globalspec invaluable. If you are not utilizing this site you may want to consider it. If you go to GlobalSpec.com and search 'valves'; chose type; pick attributes in 'advanced search'. You will get a listing that also includes a column for 'Cad files'. This is...

    flow direction

the basics of this problem is that the flow of the 80psi will pull the flow in the 1/4" 20psi into the flow of the 8" 80psi line. Unless there are other conditions that make this unique, stay with the basics and build on them.

Cast Steel or Iron Gate Valves?

steam has its own requirements. There are valves specifically manufactured for steam service. Always use a steam valve in steam service. Also, I am a great believer in calling the manufacturer and getting their expertise. You would be surprised how helpful the sales engineer can be when...

I am an old time piper and we were always taught to use a FF flange at pumps. If you need to go out of spec, so be it. Easy solution.

I would highly recommend you go to the manufacturer and see what they offer. I think you will find the answer to your questions there. Also, don't be afraid to call the manufacturer's sales engineer. They are a wealth of knowledge and are generally very happy to help you learn what is...
