Compare RISA-3D to CosmosWorks using Beam Elements

I have been using ComosWorks for machine design for several years. I just recently started using it to analyze small structures with beam elements. I am wondering if RISA-3D is better suited (easier to use) for structures. Does anyone have experience with both programs? How do they compare?

Extracting data from ACAD into Excel

Borgunit, I guess we need to assume I'm a total idiot. Do you know good books that I can use to get a background so I can ask intelligent questions and understand simple answers? I'm using AutoCAD 2007 Bible by Ellen Finkelstein. Other than the script file I mentioned, her examples of...

Extracting data from ACAD into Excel

I've written a lot in Basic in the 80's, and a fair amount in early VB. I have a book and access to VB 6. I haven't used VBA with AutoCAD. Let's give it a shot and if I get lost I'll find someone to help me with the VB part of it. Thanks, Larry

Extracting data from ACAD into Excel

Hi There, I have several hundred drawings (paths and file names)listed in an Excel spreadsheet. I need a program to open each dwg, determine if specific layers and text styles are in that drawing, and if so, if they are being used. Then I need the results added to columns in the Excel...

Versa-Check install starts when SolidWorks is opened

I use Versa-Check to print accounting checks on a blank form. For some reason, every time I open SolidWorks, an Install window opens, and begins to install Versa-Check, even though Versa-Check is already installed and runs properly. I've un-installed and re-installed both SolidWorks and...

Value of a company's CAD title block

Kenat, The paintiff is a privately owned company worth hundreds of millions. Thanks for your offer. I didn't expect to get anywhere near this many valuable comments. The title block used attributes entered upon insertion, but no links or relationships to other files. Thanks, Larry

Value of a company's CAD title block

Cbrn, It's way past the menance stage. I heard that legal expenses are well over $1 million so far, and we are months from a final trial date. Unfortunately hardly any of that goes to me. LOL. Larry

Value of a company's CAD title block

DrawOH, You're right. You would think the plaintiff's engineer would have thought about having to defend his claims under oath as you suggest. Evidently some people, even intelligent people, make claims like this causually and without thinking ahead. On the other hand, I've seen cases where...

Measure runout on shaft while rotating?

This is out of my field, but could you use an LVDT or resistance type linear measuring instrument with a fairly high sampling rate? Larry

Value of a company's CAD title block

SylvestreW, That's a good idea, but now none of us can use it. Maybe a licensing fee? LOL Larry

Value of a company's CAD title block

Ataloss, See my reply to Kenat above. The title block isn't the real issue. The defendant came up with a better design for the actual tool and the plaintiff doesn't want the competition. If I could disclose all of the morbid details the situation would make more sense. Thanks, Larry

Value of a company's CAD title block

Sbozy25, Sorry if I got you upset, although it's sometimes hard not to be. My report is due shortly, but this thing will go on for months. If you are interested, I'll let you know how it ends. Thanks, Larry

Value of a company's CAD title block

Kenat, I wouldn't worry. The real issue is that the defendant (little guy) has a better design than the plaintiff (big guy) and the title block issue is just a means to make him spend money defending himself and hopefully put him out of business. Larry
