Hi All,
We need to measure the pressure of air at 350C in a duct, and the pressure transmitter is only rated to 120C. I have read a few "Rules of Thumb" about the temperature drop in un-insulated impulse lines like 100F per foot, but they all seem to be anecdotal.
I am fully aware that the gas...
Hi All,
I have briefly done instrument datasheets in my previous life but now have some gaps in my memory on how they should be done.
I remember we used to fill out the instrument datasheets to be sent to procurement. Where my memory failed me is:
Does the instrument datasheet get usually...
Hi All,
In a typical fan curve (pressure Vs flow) for a typical centrifugal fan (suction open to atmosphere, discharge pressure a few kilo pascals). Is the flow on the X-axis usually in actuals at the fan suction? or at the fan discharge?
Is the flow ever expressed in Normals?
Thanks,
Thanks guys.
I think the ASME B 31.3 is very helpful and fits the purpose.
I've already got the NFPA standards and they are good, but I was more looking for a standard that focuses on the mechanical side of pipe design.
Regards,
Hi All,
We are designing and building a new diesel valve train to feed oil to a furnace. What would be the most relevant API standard for pipe design and installation such as flanges Vs. threads, pipe pressure rating, etc...
I did a search on API site and found API RP 14E "Recommended Practice...
Well Cloa, the plastics are mainly made of the common types such as PE, PP and PVC, but I won't be surprised if there are other types with smaller quantities.
Hi All,
We are adding an extra firing pipe to an existing burner to fire waste shredded plastic ranging in size 1-35 mm. A combustion guy told us that in order to to improve burning we can introduce tangential air to the pipe at choked conditions to "stir" the plastic chunks and help them to...
Thanks all.
David, is that Parker fitting and operator test gauge you described similar to what's called "Pete's plug"? I've seen this hand held guage that ends with a "needle" probe that can be inserted in any test point (Pete's plug) to measure the pressure.
Hi All,
Just wanting to get people's opinion about whether the field mounted pressure and temperature gauges have lost their significance in the plant since a transmitter reading is always available in the CCR and the operator can get the reading on the radio.
I am always having this argument...
Hi Folks,
We are installing a Roots blower to deliver gas to a burner, the blower has a negative suction pressure of about -20 kPag. We want to install a PSV on the blower's discharge side but have no nearby flare system. Our options are to either relief the gas to the atmosphere (least...
David,
The 6" pipe is about 500m long sloping down 10m towards the blower. I expect about 30-40 l/h of condensate.
Could you please explain how pigging helps?
Hi Folks,
I am working on a design of a buried pipe carrying landfill gas and I calculated that some condensate will form due to the cooling of the gas. The pipe is upstream a blower and hence the gas is under -ve pressure.
I am thinking that the condensate traps along the pipe will be...
Hi All,
We had a burner faceplate (Inconel 601) in a cement kiln that failed badly within a few weeks only. We know It's a harsh environment inside a cement kiln where you have high temp (up to 1200 C), errosion and corrosion (alkali metals and sulphure). The plate was eaten away badly and lost...
