    Tube sizing

Yes i will be using 2 x HBK spirol pins 90 degrees to one another. i've also sized these on the output torque of the motor using T=Fd with F being the double shear strength of the pin and d the diameter of the shaft.

    Tube sizing

Hi Guys, Can anyone take a look and comment on the attached spread sheet intended for sizing tube for basic low speed drive shafts. Just want to make sure i haven't missed anything. (intended application is to pin the tube between motor and valve shaft) Cheers Kieran

    Wall mounted crane design

Thankyou dhengr for your comments. I must state that in no way am i pretending to be an engineer or B.S.ing my boss about me being capable of designing such equipment. I'm in a situation where i am still in study whilst working full time, the company i work for has no senior design engineer to...

    Wall mounted crane design

This is where i really am strugging now, if i ignore the gussets top and bottom and treat it as a simple cantilevered beam, how do i go about finding the stresses the bolts will be subject to. sorry if i sound like a simpleton but this is quite new to me.

    Wall mounted crane design

Yes the horizontal I beam. Is it the case that i decide on the safety factor i would like to use, then using the beam stress equation work back to obtain the correct beam properties. after looking into the design a little more, i have become extremely worried about the fixing situation. how...

    Wall mounted crane design

Hi all, i really need some guidance. I am new to this game having been employed just a little over a year. Our company has decided to take on work to design and supply hand operated wall mounted cranes. I'm struggling to get started with sizing the beam (see attached pic). Can anyone tell...

    Surface texture on Acme threads

Can anyone reccomend whether they would suggest a surface finish on the thread face of an ACME thread. The problem i have is that on occasion the machinists we use produce some screwed couplings where the thread face has a really rough finish. Kieran

    keyway tolerances

Thanks for all the advice guys, i should have thought about the thread title as i was enquiring about the bore tolerances in relation to bore and keys. Would you still use ISO tolerances on imperial shafts and bores?

    keyway tolerances

I know sorry about that. Thanks for the info any way. Much appreciated.

    keyway tolerances

Can anyone advise what tolerance class should be used on the bore of a bore and keyed coupling i.e H8? Cheers, Kieran

    Line weight in drafting

Does any one have any idea about changing the line weight in drafting?

    Deflection in beams

Would end fixity still affect it if the supports are positioned in from the ends?

    Deflection in beams

I've used macauleys method to calculate a value for deflection and in doing so i have only assumed the value for youngs modulus. Ive also ignored the fact that it is a UDL as i zeroed the DTI prior to loading. My measured value came out at 0.07mm and my calculated at 0.91mm, i have gone over my...

    Deflection in beams

What could be the causes for a difference in measured and calculated values of deflection, other than human error, material impurities etc?
