I really appreciate all the constructive feedback and comments. I sincerely thank you all.
Kontiki99 - No need to apologize for the long post. I read every single word in your post and I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective on things.
Overall, I...
Sorry if I wasn't clear. I'm not suggesting that the additional material should be added on top of the existing curriculum. I was just suggesting that maybe they can remove some highly-specialized technical classes and replace them with business/econ classes. Better yet, they should replace...
*Disclaimer*
Just warning you all that I'm going to reply in a rather frank manner. It is not my intention to offend anyone or project a negative attitude. This is just a humble opinion from a new member of the "work force", so please take it as it is and feel free to reply in an equally frank...
Haha!
A. Without the 10% towards coffee-making, the distribution would be: 50% staring at random point on desk, 30% clerical and 20% repetitive boredom.
B. In my organization, it seems as if we devote >50% on meetings. We have meetings to schedule meetings!
I was just reading the news online during lunch and I must say that there are much bigger problems in this world. This past week has been particularly bad. Here we are on this forum complaining about salaries, job stability, job satisfaction, etc...meanwhile, there are billions of people out...
BTW, my screen name is 'kchida'. 'flyhi' is my colleague's screen name. It appears that he used my workstation recently and didn't log out. Sorry for the confusion (I should have checked). Gotta love those cookies!
Whoa! Sorry, I didn't mean to step on any toes or anything. I really appreciate all the constructive responses though. It's comforting to hear that most new engineers experience the same thing.
Just to clarify, HVAC is correct. In my original post, I never meant to say that I wanted more...
Here's another article from an engineer's point of view:
http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/aug05/1690
Also, how did you figure a linear mass density of 100 lbs/ft. At the moment, a proof of concept hasn't even been established. It is said that within as little as 5 years, the feasibility of a...
I'm sure many of you have read about this by now:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_elevator
I hope I see this within my lifetime (let's see....I've got 60+ more years). I would even venture to say that the space elevator concept is far more feasible than a commercially-viable fusion...
I think manned missions, such as the one to Mars, are pretty darn close to utter uselessness. I don't think we need to make efforts to inhabit Mars anytime soon (the moon is another story as it is a satellite of our planet).
However, I still think they should continue with space projects...
sms- ouch! that one hurt (but I'll live).
Well, I sure hope this is true too.
On a serious note, I do apologize if I offended you (I'm being very sincere here, not being sarcastic). I just tend to discuss things openly and sometimes I step on some toes in the process. But, I truly believe...
"I think engineering is tough for you and not of interest to you as well as I felt from your posts.
An advice is to change your field now instead of being always dreaming of wealthy life and you are among challenges that you are not aware of."
libero- ahh..I was waiting for this reply. I can't...
"I totally agree it is possible to make that much as a pre30. But to imply it's common I totallly disagree with."
Macmet- I don't think that my wording implied that this kind of salary, at such an early age, is common. But, if it did, I apologize for the misunderstanding and I hope it's all...
"Certainly with recent DNA advances, Biomedical engineering will be big (or will it become more of a biological or medical area?)"
comcokid- for the most part, Biomedical seems to be expanding in every direction, but not at a pace that stimulates me. I'm not sure if Nano will have a bigger...
"clearly you need to make 200K if you don't want kids to grow up in a poor household. Did you know the median household american salary was $44,389 (us census)."
macmet- yes I agree, 200k is big. This is not a realistic goal of mine, but it sure is a dream and at least in SoCal, it's really...
