We blew the TOP off the TOWER

After the event - we inspected the distribution deck for obstructions - scale etc... and found nothing. We'd already cleaned the distribution deck after the tower cleaning, and checked it again several days later.

If I am using biocide and chlorine is this necessary?

EDSTAINLESS makes a good point. I agree that you don't want long-term exposure to high levels of the chloride ion. I also agree with COOLINGTOWERSRUS that BCDMH is a ,ore versitle product with good results. I'm in the southeast -natural pH levels here run too high for effective cooling water...

We blew the TOP off the TOWER

HELP! Cooling Tower Distribution Deck/Hotwell lids bent? It looks like some kind of pressure build up forced water out of top of lids - strong enough force to bend them. Now water won't flow evenly down fill. I have NO idea what caused this. Are we looking at a pump problem, a controls...

Chlorine, Chlorine dioxide, Bromine, Bleach or Ozone

Brian -- you mentioned the LSI -- don't use it for a cycled tower - The LSI is great for raw water - but for CT cycled water use the PSI. Paul Puckorius is well respected in water treatment. He developed the PSI which is refined from the Ryznar, which is refined from the LSI. The PSI...

Chlorine, Chlorine dioxide, Bromine, Bleach or Ozone

Mike, there are other important facts to consider when choosing a biocide. The choice may need to be dictated by your operating pH. When a cooling tower cycles water and CO2 flashes off -- alkalinity increases. Mineral Hardness increases as well. So it is important to know what pH range the...

If I am using biocide and chlorine is this necessary?

Maybe this will help: Chlorine - oxidizing biocide molybdate - corrosion inhibitor Biocide - can be non-oxidizing (quat's iso's, glut's and others) or oxidizing (chlorine, bromine, ozone). It's fairly traditional to recommend an alternating biocide program - one that alternates from oxidizing...

Please define "small temperature" in regard to HVAC

T2DK, I appreciate the tip, but wanted to verify the information he provided. Just because your mechanic tells you something -- doesn't mean you should take their word as gospel right?? In any event, I wanted to know if this "diagnostic" was widely accepted, or an engineering "wives tale." I...

Please define "small temperature" in regard to HVAC

Thank you Yorkman, I'm not a real engineer either, but I've been staying the last few nights at a Holiday Inn Express. [thumbsup2] KBParham

Please define "small temperature" in regard to HVAC

I'm a chemical person not a mechanical person - please help me understand what the HVAC Chiller Mechanic is referring to when he speaks of "the small temperature" he refers to this differential (I assume) as a means of evaluating whether the condenser tubes are fouled due to poor water...
