hi,
the best way is to contact UGS (Siemens), they can provide you a test version of ideas. The latest version is NX ideas 5, where also the complete documantation is provided. Documentation includes many tutorials, so you can learn the basics of ideas on your own...

…my preprocessor uses elements called TRIA6, 6-Nodes, 6-DOF (second order shell element) they are converted into SHELL 93 for ANSYS and type ID 92 (universal file description) for Ideas, both 6-Nodes, 6-DOF… I’ll conduct the comparison between SHELL63 and SHELL181 for Ansys… I’ll post here the...
Hi,
I’ve checked the „birth and death“option for ANSYS, it should work… I also have quite precise material properties, temperature dependency inclusive… I think I can still take a look at the residual stresses during a transient simulation without taking cracks into consideration… just to see...
Hi Gbor,
The part, actually a shaft, breaks apart before the load is applied... the guys in the workshop just lifted it from its support then it happened... the weld goes over the circumference of the shaft, is not very wide but quite thick - multiple layer. I want to see what happens with the...
Anyway it shouldn't show such differences - and as I said before I always use the same model! The type, size and order of form function are exactly the same!!! I compared the formulation for different software using their theoretical manuals they are all the same!!! And still if by any chance...
Hi milind,
For now, I have no clue how to generally overcome the differences between solid and shell. I've only figured out that solid fits the measurement much better, so I use "model updating" and so correct the shell element’s stiff nesses... and so the results obtained from shell model...
Thanks for reply GBor,
I'm looking for software adding elements…. my problem is that my part "explodes" after welding… and the FEA stress simulation of the completed weld shows no problems with residual stresses… that’s why I want to have look at what happens, with the part, during the welding…...
hi milind,
yes, thats my goal volume models are precise but require mor computational time - problem is that volume and shell model results doesnt' fit...
hallo pja,
thx for the tip on that book, I’ve already ordered it.
Dimensions? I've encountered these problems by almost all my parts, but here are two examples:
1. Aluminum cast, semicircular plate with concentric ridges
Plate:
Radius of 1800mm
Thickness 90mm
Ridges:
Height 100mm...
Hi,
I’ve checked the mass, all my FEA models "weight" the same - the mass of the models also fits the mass of the real part.
The percentage of the difference in Eigen frequency is not an issue in my case, since the objective of my work is to exactly predict them. I mean, it won’t help me if...
Hallo pja,
Sorry :) I'm not a native speaker. Let's say I have a cast aluminum part, relatively thick. I'm going to perform a normal modes calculation using fea. I don't know how to prepare the model. I have two options: volume with tetraeder elements and more computation time effective shell...
