Govt. kickbacks for using recycled aluminum?

COKA, we did the same when I worked in die casting, but in extrusion we buy our aluminum either prime or remelt from other places (our company has smelters and remelt plants). The idea was to be able to give our customers an incentive to use the recycled material by getting them a price break...

Govt. kickbacks for using recycled aluminum?

Has anyone heard of the US govt. giving companies financial kickbacks for using aluminum alloys made from recycled aluminum (via a remelt process) rather than using prime aluminum direct from a smelter? This was brought up in a meeting this morning, but no one had any solid information to pass...

Improving Employee Morale, Fringe Benefits for Exempt Employees

Guess I could've actually posted something useful with that! Sorry, my brain is a little fried from working overtime (unpaid, of course) myself... I would highly recommend finding a way to pay your people for working overtime. This would be by far the biggest motivator for me, and the vast...

Improving Employee Morale, Fringe Benefits for Exempt Employees

Yeah, it's funny, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink, right PinkTbird? We had the same thing happen at my last company, the managers got pampered and traveled to sunny places for leadership training and were issued books such as the one you mention, but did they ever...

What is this Soft rubber toy ball material?

I think these are made of polyurethane foam. Good idea to ask the polymer experts though...

Heat Treating of Aluminum Extrusions (6063, 6061, 6005 alloys)

One last update... After doing more research into this whole debacle, I found out we do have a solution HT on some alloys, but it's a forced air "quench" at the extrusion press rather than H2O. (Labeled acceptable in the ASM documentation.) Nearly everything we make also gets stretched (stress...

Heat Treating of Aluminum Extrusions (6063, 6061, 6005 alloys)

OK, going back to do a little more homework on this, and I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks so much for all your responses, you've given me some good things to think about so far. And just so you don't worry too much, we have very little automotive work here, and nothing safety...

Heat Treating of Aluminum Extrusions (6063, 6061, 6005 alloys)

Also, there is no quench at all on any of these parts after HT. Thanks to all for your responses so far!! (c:

Heat Treating of Aluminum Extrusions (6063, 6061, 6005 alloys)

My concern is that the temperatures are not higher than recommended, but the times are shorter. Basically what happens is that we put the parts in the age oven, close the doors and start 'er up. The timer starts right then, and for sure the oven isn't instantly at temperature. From what I can...

    IP69K Linear Seals

I sent your requirements to a friend of mine who works in applications for a seal company - here is what he sent back: "We make seals for low pressure applications where the shaft moves linearly eighteen inches. The key to making it work is that an expansion metal bellows is attached to the...

Heat Treating of Aluminum Extrusions (6063, 6061, 6005 alloys)

I work for an aluminum extruder and have been here for almost 3 years - not a long tenure here, but I have learned a lot and am not having some concerns about some of our practices. Coming from a materials engg. background, I am fairly familiar with aluminum heat treating, but here we have an...

Looking for book(s) on aluminum extrusion process

I have a basic design manual for aluminum extrusions published by the company I work for that we send out to customers on occasion. I have some of the more informative sections in pdf format so they are e-mailable. If you are interested, e-mail me at joules1971@yahoo.com.

You can also try looking at http://www.flowserve.com/Seals/bellows.htm I used to work for this company, and I still know a lot of the applications people there who may be able to help you. If searching the site doesn't get you what you want, let me know and I'll hook you up with an e-mail...
