    Minimum distance with reinforcing pad

    The nozzle is in the head. Maybe could I decrease the pad diameter and increase his thickness, to keep the same area ?

    When designing pressure vessel following ASME VIII, I have a reinforcing pad for a nozzle very close to the knuckle region of the thorispherical head. I suppose there is requirement on minimum distance between them but I don't find anything in the code. Could you help me ? Thank you.

    Hi, we are designing tanks with API-650. To calculate the nozzles, we used Appendix P, and we designed welds between nozzles, shell and reinforcing pad, following Fig.3-4B. §3.7.2.7. gives allowable stress for these welds, but without method to calculate them.
