Another resource you might find useful: Crane's Technical Paper 410 "Flow of Fluids", available at www.cranevalves.com. Derivation of Cv and the flow formulas from Darcy's equation is shown.

The Crane TP-410 software might also be helpful. I'm not sure if the current version can handle partially closed valves. Available at www.cranvalves.com

Rhodie,
Thanks for your stab!
I'm not actually concerned about silicone IN the valve (the seat are metal). In fact, my question really isn't about valves specifically. It's more curiousity as to how silicone as a surface contaminant is bad for painting, but yet there is this category of...
I work for an industrial valve manufacturer. Our customers in the automotive industry require silicone-free valves for painting applications since (as I understand it) the presence of silicone has a detrimental effect on paint adhesion. But other customers request silicone paint for high...
"Better" depends on the application and the relative importance of cost and benefit. It's true that forging are not susceptible to shrinkage, porosity, etc. But you don't want to pay for more performance than you need.
API 602 defines small valves (<= 4") in Classes 150, 300...
Hi folks. I'm hoping someone can enlighten me on the relationship between nominal valve size and seat(bore) diameter for B16.34 pressure seal gate valves, Class 900-2500.
I understand that there are two types of valve, regular or venturi (also referred to as full and and reduced bore...
While several standards are explicit in stating pressure test requirements, off the top of my head I'm not aware of any standard that explicitly states when NDE is required for valves (or in other words, in what circumstances is a special class valve required.)
Noting from your header that...
Regarding NDE and and ASME B16.34
You are correct. NDE, either radiography or alternatively, if agreed to by the customer, ultrasound, is required only for special class valves.
Regarding test standards
The following valve standards all apply to testing, or at least cover testing among other...
Bill,
You may have had one of the Lyons books:
*Valve Designer's Handbook
*Encyclopedia of Valves
The authors are Jerry L. Lyons and Louis Lyons. They're out of print, but I just checked and used copies are available on Amazon.com (US).
I hope you had a good time in Spain!
Jonathan
There are some interesting articles here:

Also, a manufacturer's installation and maintenance manual would be a good reference for you.
And one tip from my experience, in Mastercard format:
Cost of new 8" 250# Cast Iron Stop Check Valve: $500

<<most cast carbon steel valves are WCB.>>
Or WC6 or WC9 for higher temperatures, but in this case a Class 2500 WCB valve would seem acceptable to me. But the equivalent DIN material (No. 1.0619 or EN10213-2)was not specified; maybe there's something special about WB36?

Hi folks,
I haven't had any luck with this query on the Valve forum, so I'm hoping some of you materials poeple can help out...
I've come across a requirement for valves of "WB36" steel, specified for a boiler feedwater system at 200 deg. C/30 MPa (approx. 390 deg F/4350 psi). Never...
