    Thanks all for the assistance. I will try to roll back XP and see if the problem get fixed. I may also try removing (temporarily) SWorks Explorer and see what happens.

    Matt, I cannot find the first step you indicated: cannot find desktop search in administrative services. Was that is the main directory? Thanks for the help. James

    Matt, Try the registry fix. It did NOT work for me but takes only a minute to try out. It worked for a few minutes for me (I got really excited) and then the issue started again.... the file button freezes the whole system. Please see what you can find from you VAR and pleasse get back to...
