    PED Annex 1 Para 4.3

A company is approved by LRQA (UK) to ISO9001:2008. The scope of this approval is "forgings in carbon, alloy & stainless steels (weight range 0.1 - 160kg)". The company is also approved to AD2000 Merkblat for WO, W2 & BS EN 10222-5:2000. This is for austenitic stainless steels. This was also...

    Forging Super Duplex Stailess Steel

Thanks guys for all of your input. EEMUA 218 does imply that water quenching is preferred immediately after forging (not air cool) even though the parts are subject to solution treatment and water quenching subsequently. The reasons are that undesirable intermetallic phases may be present in...

    Forging Super Duplex Stailess Steel

I understand that best forging practice for super duplex stainless steels (eg A182F55) requires water quenching immediately after forging is completed rather than air cooling even though the parts are subject to subsequent solution treatment. Has anyone had experience of water quenching this...

    Forging Temepratures

Can anyone advise the forging temperature range of ASTM A182F91 (UNS K90901) steel? This is a 9% Cr,1% Mo, 0.2% V steel

Low Impact properties of 4130 Steel

This part is a forging made from steel bar of grain size of about 6/7. Forgot to mention that! Hot forged, then quenched & tempered. Would agree fully about cleanliness & grain size but will be very unlikely to get GS of higher than 7.

Low Impact properties of 4130 Steel

Thanks guys but -101 C is correct! Our customer is looking for minimum 27 joules

Low Impact properties of 4130 Steel

Does anyone have experience of improving the Charpy impact properties of 4130 steel @ -101C in the hardened and tempered condition? Although general structures and tensile properties are good, Charpy Impact results are as low as 10 to 15 Joules despite good control of heat treatment and testing...

    UNS S17400 ASTM A564

A customer has his own specification of the above material which shows mechanical properties above H1150M and below H1150D condition. In the past the heat treatment for H1150M condition has always been :- Soln Treat @ 1040C Water Quench followed by 760C held for 2 hrs air cool followed by 620 C...

    Moral dilemma in ISO9000 & TS16949

I think it was pangs of concience and no more. No threats of blowing the whistle were made. I think they realised how scary the consequences could have been. It isn't fully concluded as yet I think it will be. I think the QA Manager will come out of this better - sometimes his job is to protect...

Thank you for your input guys You will be pleased to know that in the last 30 mins the Company has seen sense and will now be discussing the options with the customer and how best to proceed in line with TS16949. The lesson is that sticking to your ethical principles can generate the right...

    Moral dilemma in ISO9000 & TS16949

Thanks for your quick input.Makes a lot of sense. Sadly the top of the tree has already been reached. It looks as though no matter what, the decision is not going to be reversed. The objections are already in writing and it would appear that the consequences have been considered and chosen to...

    Moral dilemma in ISO9000 & TS16949

A company produces parts for an automotive end customer and due to capacity issues wants to sub contract the manufacture of the parts to another facility without the knowledge or approval of the customer. The parts would be supplied "as if" the approved facility manufactured them as normal. This...
