Hopefully this is the correct forum...
I have a demo contractor that was to cut away a concrete beam framed into a round concrete column. The building is about 80 years old. A demo saw was used and the angle was wrong, they cut through the spiral tie reinforcing, about 40" of vertical length...
Thanks everyone. It turns out there are only a couple with cracks, the person that relayed the info to me was over-reacting just a little. As JAE said, we put the issue back in the hands of the manufacturer, only because we can. It shouldn't be a problem, there is no full width support issues...
48" wide, 8" hollowcore planks arrived at jobsite this morning with approximately 1/3 of them have at least one crack in the top surface aligned with the cores. Contractor said it is typical, but I've never seen or heard of it happening before. I can't seem to find any guidance on how to...
The nosing also buys you an extra inch. If the code says you need 11 inch wide treads, this will include the 1" overlap for the nosing, so in essence, your risers will only need to be spaced 10" apart.
I didn't know that the City uses a different code than the rest of the state. I'm talking about the State code which is in its second issuanc that is based on the IBC. Nothing else changed very much except for the snow load map.
The calculations are the same as in ASCE 07, but we have a...
I think global warming is going to make snow worse for the Tug Hill and other lake effect regions...if any more snow will even fit on the ground there.
Brace yourself PT999, loading on Long Island went from 45psf for Pg to 20psf.
See why I'm having a hard time with it?
I'm trying to figure out why the ground snow loads in the new New York State building code are lowered in a majority of the state. I am having a hard time designing to the lower loads, like I'm missing some calculation factors that bring the roof loads back to the old numbers anyway.
Does...
My old boss is telling his clients that I'm on a leave of absence, when in fact I'm starting my own company. He is aware that I'm not coming back. On top of that, my email account is still active and he has been receiving those emails for the last two months.
I've been trying to see if this...
I typically specify 4%-6% air content in foundation walls, upstate NY so freezing is a problem. I just got some concrete test results that show some of the trucks have air contents as low as 1.5%.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this without having them remove all the bad...
Thanks for the responses, my answers:
1. It was above freezing during the day, probably right around 40, and was mid 20's at night. I am guessing, as I wasn't involved with this project until this point. The contractor's memory is a bit, how do you say..."hazy"
2. We only have state code...
This residential basement wall is showing vertical cracks, full height, in nearly every filled core. I am under the belief that the grout froze and expanded before it cured. I'm in upstate NY and this was done around 2 weeks ago, so freezing temps is highly likely.
8" wall, reinforced at...
My coworker just made a presentation to 6th graders the other day. After explaining all the stiffness matrix mumbo jumbo :-) he pulled out the twizzlers to explain compression and tension and slenderness. Showed how the compression capacity increased as they took bites out of the twizzlers...
I didn't want to ask the question of why a school will be built that way. I thought what we were using it for, a tank maintenance facility for the national guard, was inappropriate.
Thanks again.
The guys around me are wondering why I'm laughing...
They understand, but they don't want to. All they get out of it is that we don't need to bother with all the bracing and shear wall nonsense and just use moment frames for everything :-)
