My company has a product which uses thin (0.003") 316 st/st disks and we form them with a die. A recent shipment came in and the hardness of the steel was higher than previously and cannot be formed without major re-tooling. The hardness was Rc32 (according to the cert)
The vendor claims that...
Mech151,
Thanks for the response. The way I see it, if I can do a simple problem first I will be good to go with more complicated geometry.
All I wish to know how to do is determine the equilibrium temperature as you stated using a transient thermal analysis on two cylinders of 1" diameter x...
I want to weld two parts together on a rotary tig-welder, and one of the components will have a bonded strain gage on it, which can see up to 500 degrees F for a short time before it starts to degrade.
I wish to conduct a thermal analysis to see what the temperature of the part would be after...
I spoke to a Cosmos expert who works for Solidworks on wednesday at a seminar and he said that this type of analysis cannot be done w/ Cosmos linear analysis but it is being considered for a future release.
I found it very interesting that you can simulate a crate full of bottles dropping onto...
Try a "forced rebuild" (control+Q). That may help. I've had the same problem and this helped....

The floor in SW 2006 can have dampening/elastic properties, which is a nice addition.
My problem is that I'm trying to analyze a piece of plactic (specifically, it's a cover to a housing) and it must be able to withstand a certain mass in the shape of a sphere being dropped from a certain...
I'm trying to simulate a steel sphere falling from a specified height and landing on a plastic rectangle so see the stresses on the rectangle.
Can this type of analysis be done with the Drop Test mode? Or are we limited to dropping a part or assembly onto a planar "floor"?
Any feedback would...
If the Von Mises stress is greater than the Yield Strength of the material, there will theoretically be a permanent deformation in the part. If the VM Stress is greater than the Ultimate Tensile Strength, the material will theoretically break.
Your stress is 2.056e+2 N/mm^2(or 205.6 MPa)...
Hello,
Does anyone know a way to have one of the PDMWorks check-in attribute labels (e.g. the description)appear in the file name?
Specifically, I would like to see in my assembly tree not just the part number that the file is named, but the description field from PDM Works.
Example:
File...
Unfortunately, we did not purchase the Non-Linear package. I don't think that would work with Cosmos NL either because of how the spring behaves;
It's pre-loaded to a certain force, then additional forces are applied until the washer snaps down, thus the force/deflection curve has multiple...
Does anyone have experience modeling the behavior of a belleville spring under compressive load? I would like to determine the force at which the spring actuates, or perhaps buckling is the correct term.
Should I perform a buckling analysis? I can run experiments to determine now well reality...
Does anybody know how the Cosmosworks heat simulation measures up? We just purchased this package for the other features, but me may want to do circuit board thermal analysis in the near future.
Hello!
I'm having a semi major problem with DWG editor (2006 SP1.0)...
In most cases, when I open up a .dwg file (created with all realeases of ACAD from R14 up to 2006) through DWG editor directly, the program crashes and shuts down.
If I open the same files from Windows Explorer they open up...
Here's how I was able to do this:
Before going into the hole wizard, sketch a circle on the solid surface and check off the "For Construction" box.
Then go into the Hole Wizard and place the hole on the surfact. Put in a "coincident" constraint no the construction line and the hole center...
