How to Deal with Multiple Datum Reference Frames

Is this the correct usage of multiple Datum Reference Frames? I don't really want to use multiple Datum Reference Frames but I don't have a choice in the matter. I have to make the best of this. How can I best indicate the toleranced distance between the two datums? A PDF is attached if that...

    Verification of a GDT Use

MecNorth, Per your comments, here is a 2nd attempt. -Jason Nicholson

    Verification of a GDT Use

I am self training on GDT. I need to use it so that I maintain that the two holes below line up. Is this proper use of GDT for non-opposed diameter of the same size. It has implied self-datum according to a GDT book I have but I am unsure if my interpretation is correct. Please verify...

    Selectable Text PDF export KeyCreator/Cadkey

The problem is that KeyCreator draws the text as lines and then outputs into a PDF as far as I have seen so far. The PDF file contains no SELECTABLE text. Download the example and see for yourself in the PDF file. -Jason Nicholson

    Selectable Text PDF export KeyCreator/Cadkey

KeyCreator and Cadkey do not output PDF files or any other file type that allows selecting of the text on the page or sheet. Is there a way to output a file of selectable text? Basically, it is like the text drawn rather a font. If I can get to selectable text, I can make our 5000 legacy...

Dimensioning and Tolerancing in Plastics: Where do get Training?

I am struggling with dimensioning and tolerancing especially as it relates to injection molded parts. I always strive to be one of the best at what I do. However, this area seems to keep causing me to stumble. This is the process I go through and where I struggle: 1. Make a drawing of a 3d...

Multiple of Same View on Same Sheet for Clarity

CheckerHater, I am just taking what all of you are saying. I have read every post. While larger views are possible, I still have a lot of dimension line crossings when I do this. I am kind of stuck. I am just going have to deal with a view that isn't easy to look at. -Jason Nicholson

Multiple of Same View on Same Sheet for Clarity

Can I use copies of the same view on a drawing? How do I label them? I have lots of dimensions in one view. -Jason Nicholson

    Centerline Use

All of you have understand my problem. CL 1 and CL2 are ambiguous but yet I see this everywhere in my company. I think the design intent is to imply "center of the whole part" since the line extends past the bounding edges of the part. This not a manufacturing drawing. Most of our drawings...

    Centerline Use

We don't use the CL labels. I only put the CL labels up so that you could reference them easily if one centerline was right but another was wrong. Trying to reference one of five centerlines without labels could get difficult. Yes I have a copy of Y14.5 2009 and Y14.5M 1994. I am just...

    Centerline Use

My company is lax towards drafting standards. However, I am working towards learning and using ASME Y14.* standards because its the closest to what we use. In my head, centerlines imply symmetry. This may be wrong I know. I don't know where I got this notion and I can't find anything about...

    Centerline Use

In 2d drawings, does a centerline always require symmetry in rectangular parts? Can you use centerlines in quasi-symmetric parts (see picture below)? Example View: Centerline labels so you can reference them: -Jason Nicholson

Making a Building Layout from an Existing Building

Tom Walz, No I am not able to get blueprints. Thanks for the info on the rolling tape measure. I will have to pick one up. btrueblood, Excellent suggestions about out of square rooms and locating error! Thank you. tygerdawg, Thanks for the suggestions. Your post is helpful. -Jason...

Making a Building Layout from an Existing Building

I am making building layouts of the interior space of warehouses. This show's us the available space for installing equipment. I have no background in doing this but I have background in CAD. I walk into a warehouse with a tape measure and a pad of paper to make sketch the layout. What are...
