Reaction loads at the Support of an overlapping structure

Tomfh's knife bridge is a reciprocal frame discussed here Link

Reaction loads at the Support of an overlapping structure

retired13, Yes, they are corresponding to the same loading scheme. Something "suspicious"? Here is the sketch with everything: load, shear, and moment (for clarity beams are shown further apart).

Reaction loads at the Support of an overlapping structure

retired13, Sorry for the confusion - I should have stated "Option A: Uniform load on overlapped segment of left beam" ... Here are Shear Diagrams for all 3 cases:

Reaction loads at the Support of an overlapping structure

I have played a little bit with STAAD.Pro using Blackstar's dimensions. Beams are connected with dummy vertical members 0.1ft long. Below are 3 load cases:

    Angle L 1-1/2x1-1/2

Our steel fabricator confirmed that these angles are still readily available. Thank you all, iv

    Angle L 1-1/2x1-1/2

Thank you all for your feedback. I want to use L1-1/2x1-1/2x1/4 for small 2-step stile (1-1/4” grating fits nicely inside of this angle). iv

    Angle L 1-1/2x1-1/2

I have just noticed angle L 1-1/2x1-1/2 is not listed in the Manual any more. Any reason? Can I still use it? Regards, iv

    Beam Splice Connection

Dhengr, I understand that mixing bolts and welds on the same splice plate is not allowed/ recommended but I agree with jlnj that bolts on tension flange and welds on compression flange should be acceptable. BTW The contractor has already welded all splice plates, removed all bolts, and sealed...

    Beam Splice Connection

Thank you bridgesmith and jlnj for your valuable comments. This is 7ft cantilevered beam with about 70ft-kip unfactored (ASD) bending moment so top flange is in tension and bottom in compression. I have also interpreted AISC that mixing bolts and welds in connections is not recommended but after...

    Beam Splice Connection

The contractor has already installed top flange splice plate and web plate but he is asking to weld bottom splice plate because drilling those holes is a little difficult. I did not want to mix bolting and welding in connection so I recommended welding all splice plates and removing already...
