    Monopole Collapse

Thank you all for the input. I too am a bit curious/frustraed about the issue because some jurisdictions ARE trying to require a "defined" fall zone. I have not been able to get them to answer my qiestion as to what they want but, at the same time they want me to state/certify that the pole...

    Monopole Collapse

I work primarily in the communications structures arena designing monopole structures. Requests from jurisdictions have begun to come in for fall zones and fall zone requirements. A focal point "buzz" phrase has emerged requesting or requiring "self-collapsing" monopoles. Poles generally fail...

    Which are the best meshers?

Just a quick note on Hyper and FEmap. I haven't looked a the latest version of either......I am an ANSYS grinder..........But each, as most have at one time or another had difficulty with the tet meshing in thin field volumes. They had a tendancy (again, last time I tried them) to create very...

How to change freq to cycle/min in results?

Allen You can label plot with a title having just about anything you want............limited to field length. /title,.............

Help for Fixed plate resonance analysis.

Allen Sorry for the delay. I got sidetracked over the last week and lost track of this thread. Hopefully you found your answer. If not, what I think you are looking for is a displaced mode shape plot. Your desired frequency is at 15200 cpm whicj corresponds to 253.3 Hz. Your Modal solution...

Help for Fixed plate resonance analysis.

Allen Sorry to disappoint you but the model files I have produced over the years are the property of and in the possession of the engine companies I have worked with. If I get some time later today, I wll try and get you a small model set up for this type of anlaysis. IT is quite simple...

Translate Nastran to ANSYS - seamless?

trainguy it's been a long time since I used the FEMAP translater but I do seem to recall this characteristic. If I remember right I had to colect all the similar reals and do an emodify to reduce the number of reals.......not a great answer but a solution non the less. Good luck

What Level of Theretical Knowledge do FEA Analysists Need?

All Right, All Right..........Let's put the rubber on the road....... I've got a BS and MS in CE (Structures Specialized in both)and have ~15 years doing FEA in the Aero and civil fields. The first couple of years I did a bang up job building models and pretty pictures but couldn't get answers...

Help for Fixed plate resonance analysis.

Allen Sorry, forgot to answer part 2 of your question. I would fix the 3 translations at the bolt locations for a simple solution. Reality of the situation is that it isn't cost effective to model the fastening with anything more than a point load. It is often reasonable to couple all of the...

Help for Fixed plate resonance analysis.

Allen4 What you need to do is run a modal analysis of the plate with boundary conditions (temperature, ux,uy,uz). If I read your inquiry correct you don't need to apply a dynamic loading. You onbly need to run a dynamic loading to obtain dynamic stress levels. Plot your mode values on a...

2 Values Of Young's Modulus Of Elasticity

Adam, You have a simple transient thermal/stress coupled problem. Unfortunately, I can't walk you completely throught it from this vantage point however.....perhaps I can point you in the correct direction. You have a transient thermal event occuring. By definition, the temperature of your...

Where can I find out about suppliers of Ansys, and the related costs?

Mr. Jones Heer in the states there are several ANSYS Support Distributors in place. I would recommend contacting the main office in Pennsylvania, USA. Also, the current price for a single user mechanical license is available in the US$20,000 to $28,000 range...depending on your needs for...
