Thanks for the replies.
@ ZeroExperience: I did consider asking ANSYS support but maybe considered the topic a bit frivolous for them. Maybe I should though...
@TERIO: Yes, I have tried using the LESIZE command as, as you say it does seem logical. However, I'm using SHELL131 elements and...
Hello - I've been trying, out of curiosity, and possible need, to mesh areas with rectangular quadrilaterals.
Previously I've only ever used the AMESH command, but that only allows square quadrilaterals to be formed.
I've investigated many sites and searched for previous posts but can't...
Thanks Drej - very useful advice.
After messing around with the order in which I create, mesh and generate new areas I think I have this working correctly now.
Thanks again.

Ah, OK, yes, I see what you did, it makes sense, thanks!
Although I notice a flaw in my own logic... what I actually need to do is alter the SECDATA command for the newly generated area. So this isn't quite as simple as changing the material. Since the material is still the same, but it's...
Simple question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere (or work out... :( )
If I have an area, which I mesh, then generate the same area but moved back in the z-direction from the working plane, is there a simple way to make the generated area have different material properties to the...
Hello - I have tried in the past to do surface-surface radiation, the only thing that springs to mind is defining the SPCTEMP as the ambient? Or have you already done this?

Still having no joy with this and going around in circles now - does the lack of replies signify the problem really is that trivial?
I've read and re-read the coupled-field analysis guide and from what I understand the code in the above post should be working...it's just never making the...
Hi - have been trying to get a couple thermal-structural model working, using the LDREAD command. Everything seems to be going OK, except...
When I go to read and plot results I always get the error
"An error occured while attempting to open the results file FILE.rst"
(The .rth file is being...
OK, so I convinced the guys at ANSYS that SFE,RAD wasn't working at all, they agree and apparently this is being fixed fo v14.0.
Instead of applying SURF152 to TTOP and TBOT, the same result can be obtained by using 2xSURF152's on the TEMP DOF - I'm not sure if this is just because I have...
Sounds like you have most of the correct components to me... I'm relatively new to this too, but have been working on numerous radiation problems recently. I read somewhere (I can't currently find the reference) about radiation from surfaces to nodes and conversely from nodes to surfaces. I...
OK, so I have spent some time talking to ANSYS about this - their advice is to revert to using SFE RAD command on both load keys rather than SURF152s at all - how confusing!
I'll give this another go and see if anything different happens this time...
Thanks again for all of your input - hope...
Apologies - the above is incorrect...
KEYOPT(11) = 2 ----> and apply a single SURF152 works OK
KEYOPT(11) = 1 ----> and apply a single SURF152 does not work...
Errors are present for radiation elements 421 and 401 (error as described in post from 10th August)
And the errors are still...
Yes, changing to KEYOPT(11) = 1 or 2 and applying only a single SURF152 works absolutely fine, no problems.
It's only when I try to make two SURF152's (one for the top and one for the bottom) that I encounter the problem described in my post on the 10th of August.
I have still not found a...
So, I gave that a try and read the section of the manual you suggested. It all made sense in my head, then as soon as I transferred it to ANSYS the errors began...
I worked my way through them and now only have one (stubborn one) remaining:
*** ERROR *** CP =...
