First thing - isfiles don’t support any contact elements.
Then step-wise what you can do is -
1. in 1st load step kill the contact elems.
2. apply bending load.
3. when u solve with iswrite command before solve command, it will write initial stress file.
4. in 2nd LS make contact elems alive...
Hey Amini,
You have noticed a very good point here, about the inverse deflection shape of the cantilevel. I also have thought about it, and in fact I have done a little bit of research for that INVERSE DEFORMED SHAPE.
This is what I conclude - the ISWRITE writes the stresses which will surely...
FEA Gurus,
I have a Cylindrical Ring (solid45) on which I need to put a Sheet (shell63).
I want to lay the Sheet on the cylindrical outer surface of the Cylindrical Ring in segments or say in stages of say 20 degrees (I have 2 of such segments for now, later I may have more of these segments...
Here what u need to do.
1. Get the model in ansys.
2. Apply whatever dicplacement u want to.
3. Solve it.
4. goto Postprocessor.
5. get the element forces.
hope it helps.
Hey Amini,
I had the same kind of situation, where I couldnt afford to apply forces but only the displacements as initial conditions.
I tried IC command but I didnt know it didnt hold displcements in next loadstep from the previous loadstep (I had more than 10 load steps)
Finally I am using...
I think I also used the same version of ANSYS in past.
It should give you all kinds of stresses you want to see. The only limitation is number of nodes.
You can find more info at http://www.ansys.com/products/ed.asp
May be your solution is not converged that is why you are not able to see...
Hey Liweisc,
That is correct, it was just a sample model for my original model, thus I didnt define any elasticity limits and I wanted my model to be only in elastic range.
I cant use "iswrite" or "isfile" because I have shell63 and contact elements in my original problem and these two...
Sorry for the confusion about your name and ID.
Yeah I guess I was making this mistake of either
1. Using iswrite without solve command or
2. Using iswrite after solve.
Thanks for pointing out the mistake n helping me out here, its writing the .ist file now.
Thanks again...
Sincerely,
-Hemant
Thanks both, Brian and StringMaker,
Yes, I am certain that I'm givingt "ISWRITE,ON" command after the "SOLVE", however all it creates is like this
!
! ******* INITIAL STRESS FILE file.ist...
Hi Brian,
Thanks alot for addressing my query.
Yeah, I also thought that I could NEVER get the POST1 write the elemental data at centriod or integration point but I thought might be was underestimating the power of ANSYS. Thanks for confirming that.
Yeah thats true that I can't use the ISFILE...
Dear FEA gurus,
1. I solve a model for "load step -1"
2. I can get the stresses from this solved model in POST1.
3. I want to apply these stresses as initial stresses in NEXT Load Step which is "Load Step -2" after I make some modifications in the model.
I want to use the command "isfile"...
Thanks A Lot Jalil,
I had been busy with another problem. I just read all about it (iswrite and isfile)from ANSYS, I will try it out, hope it works for me.

Dear FEA gurus,
I am wondering if somebody can help me with this situation.
1. I have a column (with 1000x1000x2000 units dimentions) compressed by a load of 100 units.
2. After the solution is done in ANSYS I want to keep the column in compression (prestressed) and add another compressive...
