Hitachi( Old ABB South Boston) is an option; they make a pretty solid unit. GE-Prolec as was previously said, but they'll be a long ways out. You could consider Jerry's Electric, T&R Electric, or Sunbelt Solomon if you are ok with a refurbished unit. There are other refurb shops out there too...

Where I live, the Registered Nursing profession has seen a starting wage increase in 30% over the past 10 years, and now I see billboards for the local health systems offering anywhere from $7,500-$20,000 starting bonuses-and they put this up on billboards! The local...
I call this "the trap", and it is as many others have said in this thread. An engineers earning potential peaks as an engineer in most places at 8-12 years, meaning you'll get your 1-3% per year in perpetuity until you quit, die, get fired or retire.
So for engineers to move past the (real or...
Does anyone have any evidence or links to research that counters the "hype" that there is an engineer shortage? I don't believe there is either, but you'd think someone had actually looked into it and published research, even if it's just a magazine article.
I've seen and done this myself; if you have a solidly grounded Y point you should be fine, although you now have a 200A choke on one phase....If you were in delta, ungrounded Y or impedance grounded Y I'd say stay away from it for the reasons you highlight.
If you want to be a technical engineer, there are very few companies that will reward you money wise like a manager who does no engineering. There are a few, but they are few.

I was in a similar situation when I was approaching PE. Our state only required that 3 of the 5 references be PEs, and I had several colleagues who had just recently gotten theirs-it helped I was part of IEEE so I'd agree with the ASME statement. Should find some PEs there that once they...
I am wondering what people are using for Substation Design tools? We all have our own opinions and functionality needs, but I'm curious what might be software packages that are industry popular. AutoCad is the platform I'm familiar with in my experience, but I know there are many others.
What...
But moltenmetal, that requires forward manpower planning... heaven forbid! I agree with you 100%, do lots of co-ops, make a job for the best ones, and train them and keep them happy. I'd add be very quick on opportunistic hires. If you hear of a good one on the market, you snatch them up-job...
