thread507-316950
The referenced thread includes a reference by AMEC2004 to an approach for using DYNA6 to calculate damping and stiffness results that can be used as a boundary condition for a general finite element model of equipment or foundation sitting on soil.
Is there a document you can...
I'm reading some technical information on a Caterpillar 3616 engine that says
"Maximum rolling moment/torque: It is the phased summation maximum of all cylinders over one full engine cycle (720 degrees)"
see page 22 of the attached document.
I'm not familiar with the concept of rolling torque...
I created a simple ellipse and tried to reverse engineer a simple DXF. The DXF for only the ellipse had a ton of other code in the file. I still haven't been able to work this out yet.
I have a Excel spreadsheet where users enter dimensions for a pressure vessel. The Excel sheet converts the dimensions into LINE and ARC commands to create a 2D drawing of the vessel in a DXF file.
The ARC does not accurately represent the actual geometry which is a 2:1 ellipse shape. I want to...
This thread referred to a problem with creating an ellipse with DXF code. There was no resolution to this problem.
I am a new DXF programmer and I am encountering the same problem. Are there any suggestions as to how to solve thsi problem?

I did check the Coade Forum first as it is usually a good source of info. There was a topic on material but no information was available.
I was able to find another user some other contacts that have this material entered into their database. I have attached it if anyone else is interested...
I am starting a flexibility study for some piping designed to B31.3. The pipe material is A312 S31254 and I don't think it is listed in B31.3. I found some general properties of this material but no reference for temperature dependent allowable stress and thermal expansion coefficient that I...
This is a continuation of thread378-186955 as it has been closed.
LCMECHENGR,
I wonder if you can give an update as to what approach you used. We are in a similar position to consider doing stress analysis of the discharge relief valve flare piping for a closed flare system. We are wondering...
I’ve been doing some reading about B31.8 to figure out the load cases to be used. My best guess so far is to include the OPE and SUS cases for the stress checks.
Perhaps OCC cases could be applied for some situations.
The EXP cases don’t really apply.
I'm looking for an animation of a slider-crank mechanism. I'd like one that I can change the variable of the crank and connecting rod so show the change in the motion. I've Googled and found some animations but non that allow me to change the parameters. I did find site that uses Ch Standard...
The 200 Hz mechancal natural frequency could be a shell mode of the pipe, hard to excite with a hammer unless you do the test right with the right xducer.
What size is the pipe? Wall thickness?
We use ANSYS and other FEA code for simple structural analysis of beam and spar structures. The FEA programs include the AISC code (or specialized macros) for evaluating the beam stress and loads against the AISC 9th Edition.
The particular structure we are now considering is made almost...
The material is being used for casting of a recip compressor cylinder. We are doing a 3D fea of the cylinder to assess stress. Initial thoughts were to use Sm value to evaluate the results. Perhaps will use Modified Goodman fatigue approach instead. There are not specific code requirement...
