So, as indicated in the 2/20 post, you need to have the NIC active (ie, plugged into something, like a router/switch), as otherwise windows doesn't seem to pickup the HostID (ie, the MAC address).
If you plug it in, and the hostid comes out to be the same as the one you already have...

As far as I'm aware (as of IMS9):
1) License files only work on the machine they are generated on (which also requires a MAC address for them to be tied to). If this changed, you likely need to talk with SDRC/EDS or your Reseller.
2) MAC is short for something, I don't remember...

since IMS8 likely didn't support XP (as IMS9 only supports it provisionally), I think that Ben may have been on the right track above.
have you tried setting the compatibility for ALL the various exe's/script's/etc, or only some?
Also, am assuming, but did you check the original 'home...

try plugging your network connection back in b4 trying to get the hostid (it's from the NIC).
afterwards, try running lmtools.exe (ok to click the icon) under the sec dir, then make sure to click the 'config. using services'. Then pick the 'start/stop/reread' tab, and try starting...
Well, the message you're getting above seems to be telling us that for some reason, it's not seeing any licenses for the FLEXLM_RL (which is computer for the Flex License Manager Resource Locking), which is the third line in your license file above.
You should take a look in the security logs...

Unix is inherently secure...you have to tell it to allow you to display to it's own screen, and if your ENV varbs don't get set (or are incorrect), it hangs (not allowed to pop a window). Not likely the case here, but only time I can remember it doing that...thought worth asking.

what about a security setting in XP keeping it from popping a window or similar (guessing here)? I've seen similar behavior on Unix when the 'display to machine' variable wasn't set properly, but have never had a problem with that on Windows.
are you using the XP...
I just realized (re-reading the RodYoung1 thread you were posting on), delete the ideas_param10 file in 'My Documents' as this is most likely a problem.
Then double check to see that any of the other config files (ie, text that's readable by Notepad) in your C:\Team\Master and in ...\Config...

I think you need to be aware that I-DEAS, at least as of IMS9, doesn't really like spaces in it's naming conventions (though underscores (_) instead will work fine).
Now, that may have changed with 10 (aka NX), but I would suggest you try uninstall, then reinstall it to some...

Last I knew, I-DEAS no longer uses Exceed (now native windows gui), so if you installed Exceed (or tried or had from previous release) that may be causing issues.

Anything non-IA is always a gamble with CAD systems, but there's no real reason it shouldn't work (though overclocking or other such hacks for any CPU could expose issues that wouldn't otherwise manifest ;-).
On the Fat32, if it allows an install to happen, it's typically not a problem, though...

Either way, as the 'new' drafting now uses symbol files (.sym) for the titleblock insert (for IMS9 column one and either row 4 or 5 [in drafting] depending on which menu's you use), you can simply create whatever titleblock...

And I'd check the XP home thing, as it's definitely NOT the same as XP Pro. It would be on the first disk in a readme under 'supported platforms' or similar, except that I'm not even sure if IMS9 was out when XP launched, but take a look.
