You were right RB, I've never seen that little groove in the peak of the thread until I magnified it. The picture is at 45x magnification. TVP, your attachment clearly shows the groove on page 18 lower left figure. I've never see that before on rolled threads, any idea how common it is?
I'm reverse engineering this part and I sectioned the tube these (internal) threads were housed. I put it under my digital microscope to inspect the threads and I found these groves machined into the tip of each thread. I've never seen anything like it. I'm guessing their their to provide a...
1. Your right, I don't see a problem, but I need to explain it in a clear way; I'm wondering if I can come up with a better explanation than "I did it before." What I'm looking for is a little understanding of the cold working effect when swaging.
2. Your right, the wall of the swaged area is...
1. No, you can change the part if there's good reason, as long as it won’t affect safety or function. I’ve made material changes and minor design changes on several PMA parts, usually they make a clear improvement to the part.
2. Thanks for your input.
3. The T3 part was a DER repair, this is...
I'm working on a project where I'm reproducing (PMA) an aircraft control rod. The part is made up of a center section of custom drawn seamless tubing 1.18 in diameter with a 0.065 wall thickness. The ends of the tube are swaged to 1.090 in diameter (7.7% reduction in diameter) and then threaded...
I'm working on a control rod that has two identical clevis type rod ends screwed in to each end of a tube. What I'm trying to work out is the ultimate tensile stress the clevis ends can take before the bolt (pin) tears out. This is a little different than typical clevis/double shear calculations...
I’m working on a flange gasket that is comprised of two layers of green Klinger seal (C4401) with a .016" thick 316 stainless sheet metal core. We’re going to bond the material together than punch to shape on a CNC punching machine. My question is what should I bond the gasket material to the...
