    Recommend Mechanical Engineering Design Books

If you join ASME, you get online access to the ASME E-library. It has about 70 online books, including Mark's.

    Digital Calipers

Not to be the wet blanket... but I will. Given todays competitive environment, should you be loaning out poor measurement tools to people in your own company?

Looking for a manual Jack Screw

If you go to McMaster-Carr, you can get the screw thread. You can also get a variety of nuts. Many of these nuts are easily to adapt to what ever handle you want to put on it.

    Lab torque test question

Have you considered using a bolt that indicates the the clamping force? There are several different versions, but here is one: http://www.smartbolts.com/index.htm

    High Temp Thermoelectric Generator

Thanks for all the good info. I've been looking at dtic.mil and they list a lot of reports related to these types of devices. Most of the reports aren't online so I might have to buy them but they look like a good starting point. Thanks -Griz

    High Temp Thermoelectric Generator

VE1BLL: I think your right. I might be able to use a two metal junction system instead of a standard Peltier TEG. All of the Peltier TEG units I've found wouldn't work because the solder would melt. Maybe I could also use a thermopile set up or something similar. Does anyone know some good...

    High Temp Thermoelectric Generator

I am looking for a high temp thermoelectric generator. It would need to be a Peltier type generator. I would like something that could tolerate a constant temperature of 500 deg C on the hot side, but might consider something that can handle a lower temperature. Thanks -Griz

Connecting a threaded rod to a DC motor

If you don't want to machine anything then maybe try an electric actuator. Something like Part #2264K15 from www.mcmaster.com . Also you could look at using a lift table. -Griz

    Mini torque gage

Maybe you could measure the reaction forces on the motor mount. You could calibrate the output with known torque inputs.

Best way to Connect two thin plates

I have used Dual Lock and it worked well. It is kind of like industrial velcro. I used the type 250 connected to type 400. They say not to use type 400 with type 400 because it "may be too strong potentially causing part damage or creating ergonomic issues." Attached is the data sheet...

    Number of Element Nodes

I answered my own question so I wanted to post it for others. I kept deleting parts out of the assembly and kept getting the same error but with different element number at the end. I final had a single part with one restraint and one force. Then I got the error, "No element group is defined."...

    Number of Element Nodes

I keep getting an error when I try to run a static analysis. The error is "Number of element nodes is greater than maximum allowed Element Number =1." It meshes fine. I have tried it with the mesh from coarse to fine and from alternate to standard meshes. Any help would be appreciated...
