Hans Hendrik, Chemical Engineering Magazine has published a book on piping engineering containing numerous interesting articles from the 70-ties.

"Piping Materials Guide"
by Peter Smith
1st Edition, 2005
The back cover calls it "the only book of its kind on the market." Well..., I was not impressed, though.
Ever since I have read the book open-eyed for the first time I have wanted start a thread compiling the surprisingly high number...
I am neither questioning that double-welding of slip-on flanges is a good and recommended practice, nor is it my intention to encourage anybody to single-weld slip-on flanges. However, mbc2009 is wrong in stating that double-welding was a general mandatory requirement by all piping codes.

guys,
do we really need fancy computer programs to determine the volume of a quarter donut?

The material listed in the BOM might include same extra straight pipe length to fabricate
- wear pads for sliding supports,
- reinforcing pads for branches,
- trunnions for pipe supports,
- dummy supports,
- mitered elbows,
- field bends (small bore piping),

BJaffa,
provided the work you are going to perform is to seal weld a threaded joint on a piping system the code provision you are looking for is:
ASME B31.3 (2006) Par. 328.5.3
Seal welds shall cover all exposed threads
or respectively
ASME B31.1 (2004) Par. 127.4.5
Where seal welding of...

Reading this thread I had a feeling that it may just not be good enough to ask whether the branch connection will be adequately designed once the tie-in is done. You also have to find a safe way to get there.
Is everybody in this forum really convinced that a welder assigned to the job of...
What I hate most about tilting disc check valves is the restricted accessibility for maintentance.
The body of a swing check valve typically is equipped with a separate flanged cover plate. This allows you to access the flapper for maintenance or to remove the flapper for line testing and...
Airman23,
According to the glossary of Appendix D (see section D.3 of EN 13480-3) "B" represents the inner diameter of the flange. This interpretation fits both to the illustrations in Appendix D and also to the unit given (i.e. mm).
"k" appears to be an empirical factor to consider the flange...

Probably it would be helpful to quote the Section No. or Equation No. you are having trouble with. My german version of EN 13480-3 does not mention term "k" on its page 209, although contents generally should be equal.
Degas,
I agree with Ashereng, there is no relation between ANSI and WOG. See also MSS-SP 25 "Standard Marking Systems for Valves, Fittings, Flanges and Unions", which is one of the few standards explaining the meaning of "WOG".
