    Volunteer Work in Africa

Most of rural areas in Africa do not use codes and they do not design buildings. What they do they just construct reffering the historical function of existing buildings. People are lucky in rural ares because no multi storey buildings needed as the land is vast. Im a Tanzanian and we are using...

    retaining wall

Thanks SteveMort, I agree with you, its not a cantiliver wall because its supported at the top. If you look at my original question I called the wall as 'Propped retaining wall' because it has been propped at the top and it retains earth material. Im asking why should I just reinforce one face...

    retaining wall

Im just to design a propped retaining wall. My superior wants one face reinforcements but I think that is not propper as propped retaining wall experience both positive and negative moment. I preffer putting reinforcements at both faces, near and far face. Please advice!

    Concrete design question

using British standard you just take span ratio, if its >2 then design as one way otherwise 2way slab. Main bars span short lengh.

    repair of foundation

your procedure is ok. I think you have taken all neccessary precaution. The footing shall carry all loads perfectly. Although bonding the concrete is not that much critical(bottom bars embedded 30cm into concrete!!!) but if bonding agents are available just use them.
