    ERV in Battery Room

@SAK9: thanks for the replies. I'm familiar with that white paper, and am aware that the H2 generation from VRLA batteries is minimal. Like the white paper states, the ventilation of an occupied space is typically greater than the ventilation requirements for H2 generation from VRLA (1% by...

    Return air plenum

How would you include return air plenum in the zone CFM calculation? You are talking about CFM for a space and NOT the heating/cooling load calculation, correct? (EDIT) agree with dbill74 above

    Server Racks

Second or Third what everyone has already commented... Your server load is all sensible gains. Obtaining accurate information about these servers is critical. Be aware that servers can have redundant power supply units, i.e. two 500 watt power supplies. When obtaining information from the...

    ERV in Battery Room

Thanks @lukaiENG: You are spot on with your assumptions. To "clear the water" a tad more... the plan is to have a small A/C unit in the UPS room for purpose of cooling the UPS equipment. The purpose of the ERV is a source bringing OA into the UPS room, as well as exhausting (ventilating) the...

    ERV in Battery Room

Thanks dbill. To give a bit more information: this is a UPS room with a battery room adjacent. The UPS room will be conditioned via recirculating air handler. Means of ventilating the battery room is through transfer air from the UPS room. Region is Atlantic City, NJ.

    ERV in Battery Room

Looking for thoughts about using an energy recovery ventilator in a VRLA battery room application. The system will be exhausting to the outside at 1 CFM/sq.ft. continuously, so recovering that energy seems like a no brainer. However, this is a battery room, so certain precautions need to be...

    Apparaturs Dew Point Temperature

Rather than bicker about the question, some individuals may find it useful to turn it into a real discussion. For this process, using a psychrometric chart, I would: 1) Find points for indoor and outdoor conditions 2) Find SHR and draw sloped line to determine the coil discharge conditions. 3)...

    Heat pump limitations

I see what you are saying. I was viewing it in an over-simplified manor.

    Heat pump limitations

Isn't the "vapor compression refrigeration" or "refrigeration" cycle a version of a theoretical Carnot cycle? Hence, reviewing a Carnot cycle to understand condensing and evaporating limits (pressure and temperature) of a given refrigerant would help the OP understand the thermodynamics of a...

Chilled Water Hot Tap - Bolt-On Saddles

@DBronson: Thanks. I am familiar with the AWWA standards as they relate to tapping saddles. Like HerrKaLeun followed, they are typically used in an outdoor/underground potable water piping or other. I am questioning the use for an indoor building services application (data center type facility)...

Chilled Water Hot Tap - Bolt-On Saddles

@HerrKaLeun: Right, it relies on a gasket to create a seal. Long term, a gasket will degrade to some extent, and then leaks will occur. The question at hand is are these types of tap fittings allowed per code? And if they are, what standard should these fittings be manufactured too? Has anyone...

Chilled Water Hot Tap - Bolt-On Saddles

@Compositepro: ok @HerrKaLeun: I'm referring to bolt-on tap fittings rather than using a split tee or weldolet for a new branch connection.

Chilled Water Hot Tap - Bolt-On Saddles

I’m trying to come to a conclusion on code requirements as they pertain to bolt-on gasketed saddles for hot tapping in a chilled water system. Ultimately, I’m questioning if they are allowed by code? My present point of view: From ASME B31.9-2008, 904.3.1: …branch connections may be made by...
