NFPA 20 Check Valves in Sensing Line

Guys, Any reason why NFPA requires 2 check valve in the pressure sensing line and why is it require to be separated by 1.50meters. Thanks!

what the type of fire protection in pump room

Just protect all the rooms with automatic sprinkler system and you could sleep without worries.

    question in hydraulic calculation

Stookeyfpe, Yes it is true and most of the cases standpipe system is more demanding compared with sprinkler system, my statement is only to clarify the question of zicooo regarding on combining the standpipe system and sprinkler system in calculation, although, NFPA also states that if the...

    Transformer area calculation

Davidson, Your assumptions are correct but remember that this is only "theoretical", minimum demand required. When you are using the actual spray nozzle, it tends that the demand of the system is more compared to the theoretical value.

    Transformer area calculation

Chicopee, It depends upon the area and the AHJ. Most of the transformer here in Qatar is protected by deluge water spray system and it's a requirement from the AHJ.

    question in hydraulic calculation

as per NFPA 13, the calculation must be performed for each system (Standpipe, sprinkler and etc) and not in combination of two systems. In case you are calculating sprinkler system in hydraulic calculation, you don't need to consider the standpipe connection as a standpipe demand but only a hose...

    Standpipe vs. Riser

First you have to check what system you are connecting into that vertical pipe, is it sprinkler or standpipe system or both (combined system), then you may clearly identify whether it is standpipe or riser / feedmain line.

Wet standpipe and Dry standpipe together?

NFPA 101 states that if the habitable height is more than 23m (High Rise Building), automatic wet standpipe shall be used and as per above post, you have to check again your calculation on how did you arrived in 1750 gpm demand, in your case you need only 1000 gpm since you also have sprinkler...

    electrical room protection

First you have to make sure that all the requirement of NFPA (as mentioned above) regarding on the exclusion of sprinkler protection are ALL met, it is not only about 2 hours fire rating but ALL the above condition shall be met and because if not, you have to protect it with sprinkler system...

    Flexible Coupling

Thanks for the reply. First, our building is not under the seismic application with reference to the IBC code so that is why we did not used any sway brace in our piping and so I insisted to the Engineer that this flexible coupling attached to the piping (whenever pipe is passing through...

    Disel Pump Pad

For the foundation design you may use 3-5 times the weight of the pump&diesel engine as a rule of thumb if no structural engineer is available, however, if you want a conservative way of sizing the pump foundation you need to consult a civil / structural engineer. J bolts can be used for...

    Advice on Pump Suction Line

For sure it will cause an air entrapment at the highest point, so better to put air release valve at the offset point.

    Fire Water Tank

your proposal is acceptable by NFPA related standard, however, it should be noted that in case you want this kind of set up, you need to consider the net effective capacity of the tank which can be calculated as per the most demanding system and as per the applicable duration, also, you should...

NFPA 14 Standpipe Most Remote Calc

The calculation shall be done for the most remote hose connections which includes the 2 1/2 test connection and the adjacent hose connection since this will be the basis of selecting the pump capacity if standpipe is the most demanding in your system.

Design and size firewater pump package and storage tank ( Pressure, Flow rate, storage tank size)

And all of those who viewed his answer will got a bonus points (correct answer) for that question.
