Jdonvill,
The geotechnical Info for the job #1 is as follow:
0-10’ Fill/ 10'-22' Till (cf SAND, some Silt, some Gravel)/ 22'-30' weathered rock. Silty CLAY, some gravel, little Sand/ 30’ mudstone bedrock. Groundwater is at 10'. The river runs along the excavation and therefore I can’t use...
I have two jobs that required shoring and sheeting. The 1st job is along the river and requires a 20 feet of excavations. The sheeting system will have to penetrate through till (N>50). The preliminary analysis shows that the minimum length of sheeting is 32. At 30 feet mudstone bedrock is...
Usually the top of the drilled piers are set below the frost depth, so that the bottom of the pile cap/grade beam set below the frost depth. Here in NJ, we have the frost at depth ranging from 3 to 3 ½ feet below the finished ground level. Therefore, all piles after driven and/or drilled...
That is correct; in this situation the sliding is very critical and may cause critical damage. A higher FS is usually used. If the RW keyed into rock, you shouldn’t have a problem getting the 2.0
Good Luck
Your active forces should include the upward sloped “surcharge” behind your sheeting (the equation below). Similarly, calculate the Passive pressure forces taking the negative angle. I would use a minimum of 1.5 factor of safety for driving depth.
Ka = Sin^2 (?+?)/(sin^2? sin(?+?)...
Pile cap and grade beams should be embedded below the frost depth. Frost action will tends to heave the ground causing the wall to crack. Unless if your taking that into consideration.
PS: I don’t have a full understanding of your situation.
good lock.
Tremie concrete is the way to go especially for underwater situations. I agree with civilperson that a minimum of 2’-3’ of concrete head pressure should be maintained until the pile is filled. It is the contractor methods and means to deliver the concrete. For most cases, they will use pump to...
The boussinesq equation as mentioned above is not true when (mn)^2 > m2+n^2+1 due the term tan^-1 is (-), see Bowles 1988 for references. It took me a while to figure the equation out. You need to minus pi and change arctan to arcsin. Also use the PDF from CarlB above (the army corp. of...
