Thanks Amacdes for the clarification. Solidworks giving it away free, I don't think so.
Autocad like all the others want big bucks and give peanuts in return ie "TOOL PALETTES" what a waste of time. Large numbers of standard blocks are a lot easier to handle with a pull down menu.
CadAndy you said:
"I won't deny AutoCAD's 2D program but to
update my program every year for a fee when I get
free upgrades with Solidworks sounds like a no
brainer to me."

Hello All,
As CadAndy say's the numbers don't add up, but please clarify. Solidworks sells a life time drawing package? I just dropped 1800 bucks for AutoCad upgrade R2000 to R2004 and you say Solidworks does this for FREE?
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Peace Love and good will of the season...
Here how I do it with a pull down menu these line have been added to my acad menu.

Excuse me, one more thing...
I didn't say I did every thing to control virtually every aspect of AutoCad from the keyboard. However most of the basic drawing commands are the rest come from the toolbars.
Setvars, dimstyles, layers, txstyles, plot styles, osnaps - - - - and on are all common...
The size of 12 x 12 digitizer had more to do with me not using the 16 button puck, takes up to much space.
The combination of 21 keys, shift+key, ctrl+key and the use of double keys if you really what to get carried away, is 63 commands with one hand excluding the double keys.
One die hard...
I tried to tell you guy's before, I also used the 16 button puck for years....years and LOVED It. Customize your PGP file, you get 21 commands not 16 with the left hand on the keyboard plus four on the intell. optical wheel mouse plus transparent pan and zoom.
Know please tell me how a 16 button...
Wide format printers, I bought the HP color inkjet CP1700, it will handle 13 x 19 and works super. Has support from HP and Acad, no hassel at all, whats the price difference for the piece of mind.
Have the same problem, use a black background Acad 2000 with a LCD monitor and can't see the coloured text in the editor yet the lines show up very well when drawing.
Start with the Autocad templates, add your own customization...ie...text styles, dim styles...... and on.
I'd share mine, but it's set up for mech. details, machine design forest products.
Thanks dvd:
Coming to that conclusion, its not worth the hassel, move the bearings further outboard, make the shaft a little bigger for the extra load and put a heat slinger on the shaft, then the bearing lub. is not a problem.
Thanks every one for the help
