Heavy corrosion, gas tank, what's the cause?

drwebb and tbuelna Both of your suggestions seem possible. From my practical experience this has to be something more than the usual moisture/rust problem. It looks like vapor was responsible for causing some of this since the tank was covered with rust very even throughout. Years ago we tracked...

Heavy corrosion, gas tank, what's the cause?

The 1999 s-10 is a standard model ,no flex fuel and it did not have any evap codes stored or current. It is in central Kentucky. Truck was originally from Florida, but owner has had it for 5 years up here with no problems. I would say salt water might have been the cause of the problem, but it...

Heavy corrosion, gas tank, what's the cause?

I removed a gas tank from a 1999 Chevy s-10, 4.3, with 93K miles. Tank, filler neck and entire tank had very heavy corrosion, fuel pump pressure was low and fluctuating, filter had ruptured from rust. Fuel was Shell and Town and Country, local farm store brand, no additives or E-85 were used, as...

auto engine shutdown for low oil pressure

I was asked if most newer GM cars have an automatic engine shutdown if low or no oil pressure is detected. I know the body control computer is reading oil pressure on most cars but is there software for this safety feature. Owner manuals are no help. Thanks

Unusual brake rotor wear/metal falling off in chunks

Thanks much Stimpy1966, I have run into this again, it seems that this does not happen for a few years, my rotors were 3 years old before they started this. Good to know which rotors are higher quality. Remember the Saturn rotors some years back??? Trying to save a buck and causing more trouble...

Brake rotors unsusal wear, metal falling off!!!!

Hey read the first posts, these cars are daily drivers, one piston on the inside pad, the side that shows the rust and pad transfer. I have 35 years automotive experience and these pistons, slides and hardware are working OK. Both cars showed same type of inside rotor transfer. I drove both cars...

Brake rotors unsusal wear, metal falling off!!!!

OK now I begin to understand what my be happening. These 2 cars were daily driver, never stored or exposed to water other than normal driving, we live in Kentucky, so no salt water. This is the first time I have seen such transfer, any idea about why the outboard pads did not do the same...

Unusual brake rotor wear/metal falling off in chunks

OK one of the cars is my own, driven daily, autozone 2 year guarantee rotors, do not know manf.,Pads were premium ceramic made by Bosch. My braked had about50k miles before they started to do this, pads looked ok ezcept for more wear on inside pad, no cracks or signs of overheating that I could...

Brake rotors unsusal wear, metal falling off!!!!

Heat treating makes more sense, but why is the surface not polished by the brakepad once the harder material is flaked off. I was unable to contact the manf. of the after market brake rotor to find out if this is the case. see closeup...

Brake rotors unsusal wear, metal falling off!!!!

third picture again, brakes felt normal and cars were used almost every day. In 35 years I have never seen this happen before unless there was a mechanical problem, stuck slides or pistons, NO SO in these...

Brake rotors unsusal wear, metal falling off!!!!

I have different brake rotors from 2 vehicles that show strange wear only on the insidie of the rotor. 2006 nissan sentra 54,000 miles original brakes and rotors, 1996 saturn aftermarket rotors with 2 year guarantee, they ran for 4 years and no trouble then got noisy and this is what they...

Unusual brake rotor wear/metal falling off in chunks

tmoose: the brake system is single piston inside, look at the next posts to see closeup of each rotor, left and right looked almost identical on the inside, metal rusted and perfect on outside. Car had 54,000 original miles driven every day brakes felt normal but noisy. Also had my own saturn do...
