    B31.3 Para 341.4.1 Xray

The xray requirements per 341.4.1 states 5% which will include a representation of each welders welds. I have always interpreted this to mean that 5% of each welders welds would be xrayed but have learned that this is not the case. All that is rquired is 5% of total welds and as long as each...

    1968 Mustang Transmission

I am rebuilding a 68 mustang with a 302 350hp engine. I am having the C4 transmission rebuild and was asked if I wanted to add a second stage to it. I agreed since the cost was relatively low but still do not understand the real detail of what it is. Can someone explain what the real benefit...

    Basket strainer as pressure vessel

Sorry, that would be 1.5ft3 not 1.5m3 in my last post. Typo.

NDT testing of new 8" gas pipe

B31.3 is for newly constructed piping assemblies, it does not address corrosion monitoring guidelines. I think that is what you are talking about. Base lines for corrosion monitoring is up to the owner and should be specified. API 570 is the piping inspection code for inservice piping.

    Basket strainer as pressure vessel

One more comment. Refer to CSA B-51 to determine how it should be registered. Another note is that if there are no pressure vessels either directly or indirectly linked to the strainer, ie: in a storage tank facility etc. then it is outside ABSA durisdiction and need no registration at all...

Seal-weld a plug onto the tube.

There are varying reasons why clients want the plug seal welded tot he tube end. If the tube is leaking and the shell side is higher pressure than the t/s, it will prevent the plug from being blown out over time. If the t/s is higher pressure than the s/s, it will prevent leakage into the s/s...

    Inconel Question

Normally you can spray an overlay on or what a lot of people do is put on a weld overlay with Inconel then machine to desired profile. I have done this on excanger gasket faces in the past.

    Vessel Alteration Code Edition

The way I understand it is that the original stress values must be used however the remainder of the latest code can be used.

    Vessel Alteration Code Edition

This has probably been beat to death but I need clarification. I have an ASME vessel built in 1962. I want to add a 16" nozzle to it. What code edition can I use to comply with NB-23?

    CSA Z662 Pressure Testing

Thanks ER, I think what you meant by your response is that not only would weld examination in accordance with B31.3 be required but also hydrotesting testing in accordance with B31.3 chapter VI and inspection certification etc. I have been told that only examination ie: xray etc pertains to this...

    'P' Welding Codings

You will also need to understand the welder qualification groupings for specific electrodes to ensure the welders are qualified for the P number of base materials. These are called "F" numbers.

    CSA Z662 Pressure Testing

When using clause 7.2.5 of CSA Z662-03 for welding shop fabricated spools etc that will be used in a pipeline, does para (d) standards of acceptability mean both testing and examination?

    Pull-out strength of Helicoils

I am currently on a project where hardened helicoil inserts are being used in a quick change blind application. They are used as a wear item in the 316SS flanges and can be replaced rather than the flange. They are 1" dia. bolts and are designed for 3600 psi working pressure. You may want...

    Scope of Work Responsibility

Thats a contractual issue between you and the owner. Not code related.
