Check out Panametrics (a division of GE) they have got a pretty good flare gas metering system, transit time flowmeter, available at the moment. I think the model number is CEM68. They should have some info on their website.
Might be worth giving Siemens Process Analytics a call, they do a nice line in (relatively) resaonably priced, industrial Mass Specs. I have seen one in action and it seemed pretty good.
I would like to point out that I don't work for Siemens, lol! Therefore have no vested interest, just a...
True a flow straightener would help but if the deadline is looming as Omby stated then it is highly unlikely this is an option given the fab work, breakins required, etc.
If it is a contact thermocouple rust could directly effect the measurement if it is a t the point of contact. I've seen this before on mild steel linework with surface mount thermocouples.
Obviously all the above are correct also. Generally rust on any connection is never a good thing.
I have used Krohne ultrasonics before, particularly the UFM3030 and I have seen the Altosonics in operation. They are good bits of kit seem reliable and are of good build quality.
Performance is comparable to other big name ultrasonics out there at the moment. It really depends on what model...
You may also want to consider that when people have worked in an area for a long time, paticularly plants, then they develop a certain sense of ownership of the equipment there. Historically at the refineries that I work on there have been many instances of 1 guy considering a certain piece of...
Just like to add, obviously in Imok2's case this was a bit more severe. My post was more about the day to day stresses and problems that can get you down.
Didn't want to appear insensitive at all.
True, there is always somebody worse of, or more stressed out than yourself. But sometimes that doesn't make it any easier to deal with even though you know it should.
My philosophy is just to get things done and dealt with. If something is bothering you that you can influence, then just deal...
tygerdawg quote:
"Perhaps by "Process Engineers" you mean "Chemical Engineers" doing work associated with chemical plants and that sort of thing. If so, then YES that's the top of the pile for different types of engineering disciplines. And God bless'em, too. If they can survive a ChemE...
I am just turned 30 (yay) and have never been able to comfortably read pages of text on a monitor, LCD, CRT, big plasma. Just doen't feel right.
Definitely there with the red pen comments.
The worst of it is when you need to find some info a 200+ page pdf, can't really justify printing it all...
Start now! If you don't 4 years will be gone in a flash and you will be kicking yourself saying 'if only'.
It was this kind of thinking that got me started on my degree. Plus make sure you are doing it for the right reasons (not just financial gain but self improvement as well) and make sure...
My wife is a full time mum now (a much harder job than mine) and has nothing to do with engineering. She is however very good on common sense stuff, which I find a lot of engineers generally aren't (no offense, I'm including myself there).
Sometimes if I have a technical problem by involving...
From my experience (large chemical and petrochem installations) I tend to view the DCS as a overlord system dealing with all 'normal' IO, the PLC's we have serve as small system solutions, i.e. on a complex voting trip system we would use a SIL2 PLC which deals with the trip logic/functions, the...
Also track down the people who feel the need to make hard copies of everything they get via email, pdf, etc.
It seems everytime I try and print out a two or three page doc I am sat in a print queue behind somebody printing a 100+ page guide book. That no doubt gets put in a folder somewhere...
That link to Steorn sounds a bit freaky. efficiency coefficient in excess of 100%!!
You would think that if they had indeed created this technology they wouldn't have this much trouble getting it externally verified though.
