    Volumetric heave spec in UK

The spec for highway works in the UK specifies a Gv of 3% for material with lime and/or hydraulic binder. Anyone know why it is set at 3%? I am doing some research on this test and find it hard to meet this criteria with the soils I am testing. They very rarely have a volumetric heave below 3%...

Volumetric Heave Test bs en 13286 49

I am doing some research on a British standard BS en 13286 49 Accelerated swelling test for soils with lime/ hydraulic binders. Does anyone have any background info on this test? It looks it originates in this paper by Petry, T.M. and Little, D.N. (1992). Update on sulphate-induced heave in...

    Heave in stabilised/ modified material

Anyone got any ideas on a quick method of determining the heave potential of stabilised or modified material. The method used at present is BS1924 method i.e. air curing CBR for 3 days followed by 25 days soaking at 20 degrees centigrade. Can anyone reccommend a better test.
