Is there a minimum temperature to bend rebar? We have a legit bar bending operation at our construction site so I am not worried about bend radius and the like as we have machines that govern all that. But there was a question thrown out if there was a minimum ambient temperature to perform the...
Gentlemen,
I have a design that specifies Grade 10.9 Anchor bolts which are very difficult to source here in the middle east. If you know of someone in the middle east that can supply them that would be very helpful. In lieu of that, my contractor can supply AISI 4340 grade bolts which appears...
Ron,
Shortly after I posted this I realized that my spelling was wrong which was hurting my search results! Thank you for the clarifications and leads. The fun part about this, is I am in Saudi Arabia so I also have to sort out how to get them in country.
Regards,
Forrest
ACI limits the temperature differencial between parts of conrete during the curing process. To monitor this thermal couplers are placed in the concrete during the pour. What brand names would you recommend for use. My company specifies the use of them, but not the best brand to use. Any input...
MJCronin,
Great minds think alike, I have an identical post on the strucutral board, I was trying to cover all the bases. Seems like most are in agreement that industry practice is to space them closer, but I think we are going to do some in depth analysis and try to space them further apart...
One more clarification, the lateral load is 100kips, not the vertical. The lateral load is due to a 3.5 g factor during a seismic event at a critical facility.
Thank you for the very useful hint, I looked it up and confirmed your thoughts. To clarify. My clips are not bolted, they are welded to the girder with 18" of 3/4" fillet weld. The 18" of weld goes in and out so that is how you fit 18" of weld on a clip that is 9 inches long. My lateral wheel...

Is there a maximum spacing for crane rail clips? The 1989 version of the AISC ASD manual suggests a spacing of 3', but it is not a hard number. My clips are 9" long and I want to space them 4.5' on center. Strucuturally the crane rail is okay with the lateral loads applied, I am mostly curious...

How do I find the strength of my bolt if it is only partially threaded?
There is the general rule that a half inch bolt needs an half inch of thread to fully develop. I can't get a half inch, so what do I do?
That is a correct assumption. I am in resident engineering group which addresses construction problems, our building is the size of several football fields so they have quite a few of these girts that need to be adjusted. and they really don't want to abandon the holes and weld them where...
A single long slotted hole would work for me. But have 4 bolts arranged in a square only 2.5" between all bolts. Which means I cannot make a full long slot (cannot make a 2-3/16" slot with center to center bolt spaceing of 2.5") and keep the required clear distance to the next hole in the...
The Facility is a process building for certain hazardous materials which due to certain requirements imposed by the government client has the need for a very beefed up siding material which must withstand seismic and wind events in the elastic stress range. So for this problem the strength of...
