    Paint type test

Bought a house. Out back is a wooden deck which has been painted. To re-paint I will wash and then roll on a paint which matches the type originally put down assuming it is an appropriate type for outdoor decks. So, which type of paint is suitable for wooden (standard 2x4s) outdoor decks...

Selection of appropriate material for washers

In my daily work repairing aircraft, I often fine myself wondering how certain hardware stack-ups will be effected by or produce effects on the aircraft in regard to their corrosion properties. Going through school, we were taught about anodes and cathodes and dissimilar metals and their...

    Weather effects on paint curing

Is there a good time (season, time of day) to put paint on a weather exposed wooden deck? Its summertime and it seems like a good time of year to paint the deck outside but I'm wondering how the weather (heat, humidity) will effect the curing of the paint. There is already a coat of paint on...

    Removing Sealant

ya know, MEK works pretty good to loosen sealant. No idea how it might effect a carbide rod.

    Cable chafing through a fairlead.

I would never classify a tailwheel lock control a flight control in the ordinary sense. Afterall, no need to control the lock while in flight. And yes, I had the same feeling regarding the acceptability of the condition given the previous flight status of the aircraft, however I was having...

    Cable chafing through a fairlead.

Its for a helicopter...its for a tailwheel lock mechanism. Yes, its adjusted to specs. Thank you for your input. I believe the term chafing refers to objects not involved with the cable installation and as such, the contact with the fairlead is permissible.

    Cable chafing through a fairlead.

I cannot find any reference to allowable contact of a 1/16" 7X7 steel cable running through a vertical ring lightening hole on a composite fairlead designed to be installed around the lightening hole as protection for the cable. I realize that in most situations the cable runs fore to aft with...

    Standard torque

I understand how to read a torque chart. I understand that joints, specifically designed, should have specific torque callouts for their fasteners. I guess my real question is stated: Since the FAA requires the bolt to be torqued, why would a torque vale for a nut take precedence? When the...

    Standard torque

The nut was definitely a fiberlock nut making the correct P/N therefore the MS21044. I apologize for my inaccuracies in this thread. We did assemble with the hardward callouts in the maintenance manual. I'm going off memory for the part numbers. The bolt was a 7/16" diameter internal...

    Standard torque

I recently encountered a situation where an MS20007 bolt was used in conjunction with an MS21043 fiberlock nut. Going off an SS9300 torque chart the bolt was in the 160,000 psi column and the nut in the 125,000 psi column and therefore had very different torques - approx a 200 inlb difference...

    Standard torque

Ok yes. I mis-spoke. The fastener size is actually 7/16 inches. The bolt is an MS20007 and the nut is the MS21043. But I don't believe the sizes are significant here. My question is: In the torque chart I am using (SS9300) bolts and nuts are paired together based on their tensile strength or...

    Standard torque

I recently encountered a situation where an AN4 bolt was used in conjunction with an MS21043 nylon insert self-locking nut (I think I have that PN correct). The torque chart I was using had the bolt in the 160,000 psi column and the nut in the 125,000 psi column and therefore had very different...

    Job hunting

Just a general question about resumes and job applications. What is protocol for following up an application and resume when job hunting?

    Swaged Metal Band Shear Force

PEBAX looks very brittle. Is the tubing deformed in the swaging process? This is an amazing question. So the ring is compressed onto the tubing but you you don't know the psi used to press. And according to the question, the ring will break free from the tube before the tubing breaks...

Nut failure- What do you think?

cheap aluminum alloy run down too tight then subject to serious vibrations. (my fun guess.)
