Hi,
I have been trying to find the trivial relation between stress and strain when post processing the results in Patran.
I use the fringe plot with labels at the gauss points, without averaging and with shape function extrapolation.
This gives me labeled values at the four gauss points of...

First you need to define your deformable body (Load & BC).
Then, in Analysis>Solution Type, choose Implicit nonlinear (This is sol600).
AFter that: Analysis > Subcase > Subcase parameter > Contact table.
Of course you need to put your deformable bodies in the right load case. Should...
The picture you sent is for sol106 which is the non-linear static.
In Analysis>Solution Type, choose Implicit non-linear. This will run marc in the background instead of Nastran. You should now have the contact table in the subcase parameter.
Kwan,
After defining your deformable bodies,
You go to Analysis>Subcase>Subcase Parameters > Contact TAble
There you can toggle the table which by default is at T (touching), you turn it to G (Glued). You might want to check the stress-free initial as well. This will avoid as much as possible...
I agree with PeterGuy,
Use general analysis connection and then use rigid (kind of RBE2, smooth (kind of RBE3) or user defined where you can input stiffness if you know them.
You also have distant properties (rigid, smooth, userdefined, bolts) and closer properties (contacts, sliders, etc.)...

To perform Assembly stress analysis, you absolutely need the GAS Liscence. This allows you to create connection between the parts of your assembly. Without that liscence, you won't be able to do it.
Hi,
I am modeling a simple two plates (offseted so no coincident nodes) with Nastran/Patran, attached with two rows of two fasteners with applied load axially in order to mainly transfer shear load (by default some tension since the plates are offseted.)
Theory and hand calculation shows that...
Frenchmesh,
In order to do that you need to use the implicit solver SOL600. Then you need to creat your contact bodies (deformable), set your contact table to make sure the contact is defined, and then play with the contact tolerance to make sure the contact is picked up by Nastran (in reality...
found the mistake. It was the non-layered results. If I plot for layer 1 or 5, then I get the same results whether it is Caucy or Stress. That is comforting. : )
Hi,
I am currently performing an analysis using MSC SOL600 on shell elements. The results I am getting are stress and Cauchy stress. From what I understand, Cauchy stress theorem states that knowing the stress vectors on three mutually perpendicular planes, the stress vector on any other plane...
Hi,
From the notes I have, you should use the appropriate icon. On my screen, it is the icon beside the two cubes (white and blue) THe icon looks like un dark grey square with a red line across it. Any way, you can right click on the icon and select "combined simple and detailed element...
How are they different from other elements?
I found on the net that there seem to be some elements called PIPE21 or PIPE31H. Maybe it is those elements I am looking for.
Hi all,
We have a supplier that want to use ABAQUS Pipe element for some analysis. we never worked with ABAQUS and we have absolutely no idea what a Pipe element is in ABAQUS.
Do any of guys know where I can find some information about that element? I have look through Simulia website, goole...
