Ah, that error just drives me crazy! I honestly don't know for sure how to get rid of it, but usually, playing around with the mesh eliminates it.
Just try to make sure that no element that is part of the contact definition has something else defined on it (example, element is defined being in...
In principle, the clearance value is there in order to create an artificial clearance or interference, without taking the geometry into consideration.
This means that even if the two geometry has an interferance, if you specify a clearance, it wont considerate the interferance. Works pretty...
ok, I am guessing that the three contacts we see in the pictures are between the pin and lug (middle one) and pin with bushings (two extremities). I picture of the assembly with transparent parts would also be usefull to see how everything is assembled. Can you send a picture with the results...
engjeff,
Does the pin shoots out axially of the bushing?
Again, dou you have a picture of the assembly of the pin?
Usually, what I do for an assembly pin/bushing, is to define a contact between the inner face of the bushing to the outer face of the pin. Then, restraint one of the side faces...
That is right. The reality is somewhere in between. The only thing that you can do to have a better notion of what is really going on is to use a non-linear solution with contacts. (Not possible in Catia) but this is anoher game. But is it really worth the cost of it?
acoidanbm,
Are you sure you are looking in the right folder? Usually, Patran (and nastran if you run it directly from Patran) creates the result file in the same folder as Patranwas started from. It might be a different folder that where the database is.
PerKr,
Basically, CATIA creates a null–length rigid bar at the middle point between the centroids of the two surfaces to connect. Then, each extremity of this null-length bar is connected via a rigid spider (equivalent to MSC/Nastran RBE2 element) to the nodes of the surfaces. Being a rigid...
Score33,
I might be a pain in the ass, but what I am doing is making a copy of the short cut on my desktop. Right click and edit the start in to match the folder where you are working. So you can have as many copied shortcut as you have folder you are working in. That way, Patran will always...
Ok, We found how to access results at the integration points in Patran. Access Results - Translation parameters and then you can check gauss points results.
engjeff,
One thing we haven't precised at the beginning. What version of Catia are you using? I just assumed that it was V5 R14 or up.
If it is the case, just look at the document I just made up.
I hope this will help a little bit...
Engjeff,
CAtia does not allow to apply anything directly on the mesh, unfortunately.
If the point lies on the surface of the solid, you could try the following. I have never tried it but always wanted to. So maybe you could tell me if it works or not.
With the Shape workbench, create a point...
hi marco,
You should probably post this question in the Finite element analysis engieering forum or MSC Software Patran forum since you seem to be using Nastran sol106. I am not sure this subject belong in this forum.
You will have probably more answers on those forums anyway.
