Obround flange design per ASME VIII

The opening is 27" diameter in the short dimension x 57" long dim (a 27" dia nozzle split in half and separated by two 30" straight pieces). The flange only needs to be wide enough for the bolts (~ 3" wide). I can e-mail you a picture if it helps. Thx. Dave

Obround flange design per ASME VIII

Thanks for the quick responses. Steve Braune - I had forgotten that UG-34 covered non-circular bolted covers. generalblr - the flange is actually quite long; 27" short dimension X 57 Long dimension. I have tried calculating the flange in a manner similar to that given in App. 2-10...

Obround flange design per ASME VIII

Does anyone have any sources for the design of an obround bolted flange and cover plates for use on a pressure vessel. The obround neck is 27" OD x 30" c/c. Appendix 2-10 gives a procedure for non-circular flanges with a circular bore which doesn't apply in this case. The design of...

    Where does "Mil" come from

And M is the Roman numeral for one thousand. It is quite common to see gas flow rates in Mcfd which is 1000 cubic feet/day, and MMcfd (one million cubic feet/day)

    Clad Steel Welding

The procedure for welding clad plates (as I understand it) it to strip back the cladding from the joint by some mechanical means and completely clean the joint so there will be no cross contamination in the base metal weld. Then you weld up the base material, and finally do a weld overlay to...

    Why SA-182 F317L isn't in B16.5 flange rating tables

Does any one know why SA-182 F317L isn't listed in B16.5 1998 Table 1A (List of material specifications)? I am guessing that I could use the Pressure/Temperature ratings for Material Group 2.3, which includes 316L and 304L. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks Dave PS: the vessel design...

Pressure Rating of SA-182 F317L Flanges

I am designing a vessel made from 317L stainless steel, and need help with the flange rating of the SA-182 F317L flanges. SA-182 F317L is not listed in ASME B16.5-1998; the closest material is SA-240 317 which is listed for material group 2.2. Should I use the Pressure/Temperature ratings for...

UG-45(b)(2), ASME BPVC Sec VIII, Div 1

I understand it to mean that you use the external pressure in the calculation for the shell or head thickness as if it were an internal pressure. So if your external pressure is 15 psi, then you would use 15 psi in the shell (of head) thickness calculation in order to determine the minimun...

    When I need heat treatment?

A good rule of thumb is any welds over 1 1/2" thick in a Carbon Steel Vessel (P-No. 1 material) need to be Post Weld Heat Treated (Stress Relieved), however as the others have said - you need to read ASME VIII Div 1 to be sure.

Need 54" quick opening vessel body flange

Both Yale and Peco make QOC's (quick opening closures). A search on the web will give you many suppliers such as: http://www.rmenergy.com/pdf/yalequickopen.pdf
