    Chilled Water / Hydronic Training

As a mechanical engineer, I design/specify HVAC for buildings such as K-12 schools, churches, etc. and have several years experience with split DX HVAC, but little experience with the chilled water/hydronic systems. Over the years, I've developed working friendship with other engineers for...

Best NESC 2012 Handbook ... by Clapp or by Marne?

I am involved with updating our engineering company's code books. Which do you think is the better NESC 2012 handbook ... the IEEE website handbook by Wiley Clapp or the McGraw-Hill handbook by David Marne? (... will also be purchasing the 2012 NESC code book.) Our company is occasionally...

Unexpected 25% Jump in School's KW Usage

I have been invited to a meeting with a local school to discuss an unexpected 25% jump in the KW usage of their monthly High School building bills (last 2 months). The building (classrooms, gym, band hall) was built in 2002, and KW usage has been repeatable over the years, so the 25% jump is...

Generator Installation - Alternating Similar Loads

I want to thank all the responders for the good, practical advise. After looking at some of the starting watt versus running watt information, I think I just need to get all the nameplate/manufacturer information and buy a genset that is plenty big enough. Thanks again

Generator Installation - Alternating Similar Loads

I am installing a generator serving lights and 2 refrigerators and 1 freezer for a Volunteer Fire Station. Each is the typical household appliance. Plans are for a 20A circuit for each. To reduce the generator load (...and size/cost), I would like to alternate turning the appliances off...

    Standby Generator Installation

I agree...I'll just have an easier time getting it included in the budget if it is required by Code. Thanks, ELMPE1

    Standby Generator Installation

When installing a standby generator outdoors (such as for a remote water well or sewer lift station) is there a code requirement for a site light (such as a pole mounted metal halide or high pressure sodium area light) to illuminate the genset and transfer switch for refueling (diesel) and...

Multiple feeders from one building to another

alehman, Thanks for the comment. I plan to upgrade the feeder so that the installation complies with 225.30.

Multiple feeders from one building to another

alehman, Thanks for the response. This is a packaged system with everything outside the building (only thermostat and some ductwork inside). The existing buidling circuits are 120V1PH and 208V1PH fed from a 208V3PH panel located inside the building. The new packaged unit circuit is...

Multiple feeders from one building to another

davidbeach, The electrical engineer is referencing 225.30 allowing "only one feeder".

Multiple feeders from one building to another

waross, Thanks for the comment. It will be up to the AHJ as you say; he may see the installation as separate from the building electrical with your idea.

Multiple feeders from one building to another

I am working on a renovation of an existing school campus. The PE gym is currently fed from a breaker in a panel "MDP1" inside the adjacent (not connected) elementary school building. The school would like to add air conditioning to the gym (a packaged A/C unit setting on a pad outside the...
