Choosing the right rating of power plant

When the natural resources permit to build a Power plant with a total generation capacity of 800 MW. What factors determine the rating of the power plant, when I have to choose between 2 x 400 MW and 1 x 800 MW ?

Connecting a wind power station to existing net (GRID)

Could any one suggest what should be calculated in order to connect a wind power plant or any power generation plant to the existing net/grid. Where can i get information regarding the above said issue. Best regards electpower

Capacitor bank on low voltage side of the transformer

Hello, I heard from my collegue that a capacitor bank has to be installed in the low voltage side of the generator step up transformer, which is connected to the generator. The high voltage side of the generator step up transformer is connected to the network (grid). He also mentioned that a...

    Neutral conductor dimensioning

"Preferred neutral conductor options include 50% or 100% of the phase conductor. In limited cases, it is also possible to select a conductor rating up to 200%." The above lines were stated in the ABB- MNS panels documents. Why is the neutral conductor dimensioned sometimes lesser than the phase...

    SURGE ARRESTER (SELECTION)

I have trouble with understanding the selection of surge arrester This is regarding the surge arreter for 200kV sytem connected to the overhead line on one side and to a cable which is 50 meter long connected to the transformer on the other side, this surge arrester has to protect the...

    Testing relays

I dont want to test it with devices like omicron, but testing it in field with the cts and vts

    Testing relays

Yes, i agree. I would like to test the relay, by checking the reponse to the input , for example if i check the differential protection , i purposefully short one side of the current transformer and look if the relay trips the circuit breaker.

    High Voltage CLEARANCE

Thank u for the reply. I have a clearance of 125kV in the area near the generator and clearance of 145kv away from generator. Now if i have a surge, higher than 125 kV then it would strike the area near the generator, this is pretty clear. However say if i have a clearance of 125kV through...

    High Voltage CLEARANCE

Please have a look at the attachment. The Red circle shows the three phase connection of Isolated phase bus bar to the generator .The rated voltage of the generator is 21kv, Which means the Um value is 24kv, from IEC the clearance is 220mm, if choose a lightning impulse voltage of 125kV. Say i...

    SFRS

I was preparing list of signals between high voltage switchyard and power plant. I met with a signal SFRS -On and SFRS - OFF ( For a Generator operating under SFRS) Can some one tell me what does "SFRS" mean ? What is it?
