GENERAL PURPOSE EQUIPMENT IN HAZARDOUS AREA

Hazardous area classification and selection of equipment is a specialist area. Although I am not aware of relevant legislation in your Country/State, it seems to me that as a PE you cannot sign off the installation as you do not have the relevant experience and competence. This is not a...

    Earth Rod Requirement?

You do not say if your main 400 volt supply has an earth connection. If it does then you should connect your earthing system to it. If not you have a TT system and you must provide an earth electrode. See IEE Regs Chapter 542.

    SOURCE EARTH

The majority of British (and Irish) engineers would probably share your ignorance of the problem as LV systems other than solidly grounded are virtually unheard of in the UK and Ireland. American electrical engineers are more familiar with the problem as I believe that ungrounded LV systems were...

Measurement of impedance of offshore module steelwork

Over the years I have been involved in numerous arguments concerning the efficacy of the steelwork of offshore platforms as the return path for ground fault and lightning current. Does anybody have any as-built measurements of impedance of platforms or modules, eg the resistance from one end of...
