Hi dgallup,
Thanks for the tip, I had not seen this one before! I'd still like something that looks at ALL files, but this will get me started and is better than loading and doing >Info on every assembly. Thanks.
Over the decade, our small team has produced some ~10K or so Pro/E assembly, drawing and part files in WF2. We store them in a crude repository mapped to a local directory structure. Repository maintenance has not been our priority, so we have many part files not in assemblies or drawings -...
Hi IRstuff,
Well, thermal expansion is nice and linear (for uniform temperature) and can be predicted out of the model. Similarly, the effects of gravity can be calculated out. Its the unpredictable, non-linear stuff that we're worried about.
Thanks Lcubed,
It just so happens that I'm working on an aluminum extrusion and we're deliberating a stress relief anneal following some post-extrude machining operations (removing 4.5% of the part mass).
Dimensional changes to the part can be accomodated following machining and before...
Hi All,
Has anyone any experience with dimensional creep (distortion) as a result of residual stresses over the *long term*? Objects do distort in the short term as a result of forming or machining operations from residual stresses, but are these changes long-term stable, or will the material...
Hi,
Can anyone suggest a decent print resource/reference book which describes aluminum heat treating processes from a chemical, metallugical, and physical point of view? Something from one of the societies?
Thanks
We have a similar difficulty strengthening the threads in a fairly thin-walled aluminum extrusion (wall thickness < thread dia). Helicoils require their full length to be seated in metal in order to prevent them backing out. They can be clipped shorter but this doesn't really work in a...
We're doing some machining to a beefy 6061-T6 extrusion and are VERY concerned about residual stresses in the material afterwards(as a result of extruding and machining). Two questions:
1. Any idea if dimensional creep is likely as a result of machined in stresses over the life of the part...
