Looking for metals and plastics compatible with methane sulfonyl chloride.
Any suggestions or arrows pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.
bzandy,
This sounds to me like a reduced port, floating ball, one piece body with end entry ball/seat package which is retained by a threaded ring. Typically low pressure 150/300 class. Widely used design, but not too popular - probably due to sealing issues. In the bigger bores, the issue of...
Adrenalin,
You are right on course.
Kindly remind API on a regular basis that you are waiting and see if they need any additional information from you. A nice way to keep your name in front of them.
Are you using a consultant to help you get you license?
Some times those guys have a little pull...
In addition to the above, NACE MR0175 is a must read if H2S is involved.
Also, API Spec 6A (a well head publication) gives an informative overview with specific detail on how the manufacturing requirements are increased as as seriousness of the application (PSL - product specification level) is...
e4,
Talk to your customer. Show him/her your engineering. What does he/she want to buy? API only cares if your product is monogrammed. Qualty program is only important if the customer wants you to have one. However, origina material properties may be impossible to obtain in which case - well, it...
I trust these are the old WKM syle gate valve.
A couple questions.
Are the valves installed with the gate portion of the split gate assy downstream? The part that attaches to the stem is typically called the gate and the other half is called the segment. If installed backward, high torque is...
Charlesan,
One or both of two areas can be holding your valve open. One, the stem may be locked from turning due to rust (oxdiation if you like that word better). Two, ball may be locked from turning for whatever reason. It could be that rust has formed on the back side of the seats and caused...
I have a 24" weld neck flange (23.25" ID) and a stopper plate on the flange side that is 6.25" above the flange when open. The flow is coming out the flange and hitting this plate, and in effect, turning 90 degrees to exit. The stopper is supported by 5 ea 1.66" dia pipes above the bolt holes in...
Thanks Stanweld,
My supplier has contacted the mill and found that impact values in excess of our needs are obtain consistently when the available material is normalized, quenched and tempered. That procedure is currently being tested on a 6" sample of the 2-1/2" wall thickness A106-B tubing.
Thanks for all the feedback. The A-106 is 16" OD x 11" ID (2.50" thk) - ID finishes at 12". I do not know current values. The vessel vendor found a heat of A-106-B with .71 Mn. I sense something magic about >.70 Mn. He will cut off 6", normalize it, and run impact and tensile tests on it to see...
Steve,
It is being considered to get acceptable charpy values (17/12 ft-lbs @ 0 deg F) from A106-B. Other material options are not available in sizes needed.
It appears the critical variable to get acceptable charpy values from A106-B is the Mn level. The higher the Mn the higher the charpy...
