Link drawing property to model property

Thanks all for your replies. Looks like I'll be using the macro. - Chris

Link drawing property to model property

Limey, The answer to your question is best said by Stoker in the previous thread that you referenced...if I may quote: "I can see the value in this, especially when a PDM system is being used. For example, if you are pulling the drawing number and description fields into the title block from...

Link drawing property to model property

Well, not really. It works fine for linking in the drawing title block, but not when linking in the drawing custom properties. Any other thoughts? - Chris

Link drawing property to model property

Yes. In fact I have it linked in the title block. See this screenshot. When I mouseover the words you can see what it's linked to. - Chris http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=206c5377-1d24-49a6-b1dc-5d06093332ec&file=Custom_Property_3.jpg

TheTick, Here's a screen shot of the model properties. Thanks. - Chris http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=342b1b34-1b26-43f9-b2b3-8a17a3b10c05&file=Custom_Property_2.jpg

Link drawing property to model property

All, I have attached a screenshot of my drawing properties. The model referenced by the drawing has its own custom property with the name: TITLE1 But as you can see the software is not reading the custom property from the part file. What am I doing wrong????? Thanks again. -...

Link drawing property to model property

designer22, I am on SW2009 SP2.1. I tinkered with the Property Tab Builder but it doesn't seem to be able to link a drawing custom property with a part/assy custom property. From all that I've read, the syntax: $PRPSHEET:"custom property name" is supposed to read the custom property name...

Link drawing property to model property

Limey, I looked at the post you referenced. The macro by EEnd is fine, but my property names are different and therefore it doesn't work. I'd rather not get into programming (which I can't do anyway!!!) What I REALLY want to work is what Gildashard said in that post, but it doesn't seem to...

Link drawing property to model property

Hello all, Is there a way to link a drawing custom property to a custom property in the part/assy? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere in this forum. In the File-Properties-Custom tab the syntax I thought would work was $PRPSHEET:"TITLE1" where TITLE1 is the property in the part or assy...

    4340 & Stress Concentrations

All, Thanks again for the excellent responses. I am seriously considering the welding option, but perhaps the biggest challenge will be convincing the other engineers here with 30+ years experience versus myself (3 years). I'm sure this would be well outside their "comfort" zone. unclesyd...

    4340 & Stress Concentrations

All, A belated Merry Christmas to you. Thanks for the excellent responses. I have to admit, making this a two-piece shaft and welding together scares me. Perhaps this fear is unfounded, but at this point I'd rather keep things "simple" and stay with a single machined piece. In the past...

    4340 & Stress Concentrations

The number of cycles at this loading is not expected to be greater that 1000, so I am not considering fatigue at this point. So if the fillet is induction hardened to 58/62 Rc, is it safe to assume the tensile strength in that area is ~160,000psi? (I got that number from a heat treatment...

    4340 & Stress Concentrations

unclesyd, To answer your questions: 2.880". yes the shaft is hollow (3" ID). wall thickness where flange joins shaft = 3" (9" OD). the adjacent steps are 8.900" OD, 8.750" OD. the radius where flange joins shaft = .375". Thanks in advance. - Chris

    4340 & Stress Concentrations

Hello all, This is my first post in this forum so please forgive my ignorance. I am designing a large shaft (17.75" OD) made of 4340 alloy steel. See attached picture. The shaft undergoes both axial and torsional loads as well as internal pressure. My analysis indicates a stress...

Safety Factor...how to calculate with FEA results

All, My component (shaft loaded in tension only) has to fulfill the requirements of American Petroleum Institute (API) specification 8C. It calls for a safety factor of 3.0 based on yield. For the sake of argument, if my material has a 100,000psi yield and the FEA tells me the maximum stress...
