reference for airgap tolerance average +/-15% 4-pole machine

I have always used 5 to 10 % as a solid rule. However, you are in dangerous land when you use only speed. The problem is from what designers call 'Shaft Stiffness Ratio' which is strickly a function of the design of the motor not the RPM. Another thing to remember is that as the air gap...

    Soot Blowing Basics

What I have found over the years and even more so in the last 10 years is that everyone is so willing to "put in new technology" that they have forgot how to think. All of the newer soot blowing controls use time or strain gages. All of this is fine if the fuel supply is VERY consistant. But...

    Soot Blowing Basics

We found a better way to do this than the 3 biggest soot blower mfgs. In fact 2 of them came here to look at what we had done. If you want call me. 920.453.2195 Besides I have 30+ years in and only 6 have NOT been in coal fired units. Doug

    CO2 Removal from Plant Stacks

We took a different approach, we burn up the CO, NO JOKE!

POWER, TELEPHONE AND CABLE, ALL IN ONE CONDUIT

This is a very bad idea. Cross talk and computer interference will be a big problem.

    Salt Water Separation

Many years ago we used a common sump pump with the float type of on/off switch. We set up the float such that oil would make it float up but water would not cause the switch to operate. Inshort a specific gravity type of switch. Hope this helps.

waste lubricating oil as boiler fuel

We burn our waste oil in our cyclone boilers by dumping it into the bunker, works just fine.

    Motor Insulation Class

What you are looking for is, Temperature Vs Life (Figure 3) in IEEE117 and 101. If you can't get a copy, send me your fax or email and I'll send you one.

Steel Slip Rings for Synchronous Motor

There are about 7 different classes of materials (includeing Cu)that have been used for slip rings. STEEL 0.21%C or 1% C with 1% Cr. This is usually used for turbo alternators where high hoop stress may be encountered. However oxidation is a problem with this material. Stainless Steel...

    THRUST MEASUREMENT

About 1977 I did some testing on a USCG tug. This tug did have load cells for thrust measurement. They were located in the thrust bearing just forward of the propulsion motor, aka diesel/electric system.

Cooling Tower Blowdown for Heat recovery steam Generator or HRSG?

This area is not my strong suit but what I understand from your question is you will see a buildup of solids in the water of your cooling tower and an increased ineffectiveness of any chemical treatment of this water system.

    electrical failure mechanisms

Electrical components fail in 1 or combinations of the following 3 1.) chemical 2.) mechanical 3.) electrical For example 1, resistor Over heating would be chemical. Sometimes others will add a 4th way as heating, but in reality, there is a chemical change via heating. For example 2, resistor...

    Tripping Matrix, Turbine Generator

I do not know of any standard for this purpose. But if you have accounted for all of the conditions that may/can occur, you should be off to a good start. Also have a knowlegeable protective relay AND a generator person look over the trip logic as well.

    Westinghouse CO Relay Curve

You might be able to find it in the Westinghouse or TECO (Tiwan(sp) Electric Co.) site as well. However I would suggest that you look in the Basler web site under protective relays (or call your local rep) and look at their solid state relay set up curves. I have found them (W) CO curves there.

    Field flux plot test

Yes. Further, do not tell me that an ac test is better than a dc test because it is not. For one very big reason, it (ac drop test)is also measuring the reactance voltage drop, which is much larger than the resistance voltage drop. Remember that when you use ac, you are dealing with the...
